Rams come first, insists Johnson

Ramsbottom United joint manager Anthony Johnson is delighted with his team's 2-1 victory over Bury despite being a life-long Shakers fan.

The Rams overcame a youthful Bury side on Wednesday night with a last minute winner from Martk Drew and Johnson believes the team's performance will give them a great confidence boost ahead of their debut season in Evo-Stik NPL First Division North.

"We played really well, and looked the fitter team against a full-time squad", said Johnson, as the home side completed their pre-season friendlies. "We now can look forward to the start of our first season in the Evo-Stik League with confidence."

After an uninspiring first half, a number of substitutions livened up the second period and the Shakers took the lead on 76 minutes when Tom Pratt was upended in the box by Nathan Gray. Jordan Rugg tucked home the spot kick.

Jordan Hulme fired home an equaliser two minutes later and on 89 minutes Drew fired home the winner from the edge of the box for the Rams.
United kick off their Evo-Stik League NPL campaign with a home clash against Cammell Laird on Saturday week.
