Rams rocked by double departure

Ramsbottom United legend Jon Robinson was named as the new manager of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League club at lunchtime on Saturday following the departure of joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

Robinson, pictured, celebrated his 100th goal for Premier Division club earlier this season and was appointed after the club's managerial team resigned from their posts at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Friday night.

Johnson and coach Glenn Moses are reported to have moved on to First Division North Salford City but the Ammies have yet to confirm any role for the pair.

Like their successor, Johnson and Morley were in their sixth season at the club, having taken over the reins in the North West Counties League.

Last season, the duo guided the Rams to their second promotion in three years to reach the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight, the highest level in the club's history.

In a statement announcing the departures, officials said: "The club wishes all three the best for the future, and thanks them for their excellent efforts and success during their time at Rambottom United. The club have moved swiftly to appoint popular Rams legend, Jon Robinson, as the club’s new manager."
