The former Bournemouth boss and academy manager at Bristol City was congratulated by the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division's Sports on Twitter on Wednesday after agreeing to leave the Don Amott Arena to help the ex-West Ham, Tottenham and QPR boss quickly turn around the relegation-threatened giant's season.
Redknapp, pictured with Groves, right, and his second appointment as first team coach Steve Cotterill, succeeded Gianfranco Zola on Tuesday after a 2-0 defeat by fellow Championship strugglers Burton Albion on Easter Monday saw the Italian leave with City just three points above the drop zone.
Instead of being alongside Sports manager John McGrath in the club's final home game on Saturday with Frickley Athletic, Groves is expected to be preparing for a trip to Aston Villa with Redknapp on Sunday with just three games to go.
