Rejuvenated Matlock keen to finish season strongly

Matlock Town manager Martin Carruthers hopes his side’s break will benefit them as they head towards the business end of the season.

The Gladiators are currently eighth in the NPL Premier Division, and nine points off the play-off places with a game in hand.

Matlock ended up having a free day last Saturday- their last game was a 2-1 defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened Marske United.

They face another relegation-threatened side, as they travel to face Liversedge next up.

Despite the break, Carruthers was also realistic about his side’s chances.

“Realistically we need to win six out of six to reach seventy points and even then, that might not be enough,” he said.

On the break, he added: “It’s been good, it’s given us the chance to recuperate and recharge our batteries and the opportunity for the injuries to clear up.

“We’ve had some good training sessions and on Saturday we had a team bonding day after training in Matlock which was great”.
