Reserves reverting to old name

Since merging with the Moors for the start of the 2014-15 campaign, Coxhoe Athletic have played as Spennymoor Town Reserves in the Wearside League and will enter the competition again next season under their original name.

The First Division North's Moors only formed their own reserve side in 2013 to play in the Durham League. After merging to help stabilise their neighbour's finances two years ago, officials say the two clubs will continue to work together.

Spennymoor Town's chief executive Brad Groves said: "The last two years have been very successful in keeping the club alive in Coxhoe when there was a possibility of it going under.

"The ability to bring first team players back to fitness and bringing on youngsters from the Academy has been invaluable. The situation has now stabilised and it’s time for the committee to take back full control of the club once more."

In a statement released on Saturday, the Moors also confirmed that Paul Cooper would continue to manage the second string along with his assistants David Ross and Martin Mulcaster.

Coxhoe Athletic's secretary Paul Charlton said: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Brad and the Board of Spennymoor Town for all of the support they have given us over the last two seasons. Without the partnership there would have been no football in the village.

"What we have now is a much stronger base from where we were two years ago, we now have a junior team who will play Under 18s next season and we have seen a much higher standard of football being played. We would like to push on from here and strive for more success."
