Roms boss calls for calm

Romulus boss Richard Evans insisted the only difference between two very different results this week was his side’s finishing as they prepared to host Rainworth Miners Welfare in the FA Trophy on Saturday, writes Andy Mitchell.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Division South's Roms take on Rainworth after gaining a second league success of the season at Hucknall Town last weekend with a 3-1 win before suffering a 1-0 reverse against local rivals Halesowen Town at Coles Lane on Monday.

Despite the Yeltz defeat, Evans maintains that his charges dominated both games, but are simply not taking their chances on home soil.

The Roms chief said: "We played well in both matches but our finishing against Halesowen was terrible and they sneaked one at the death.

"We battered them at times, outplayed them, so we have to take the positives – many of their people said they couldn’t believe we didn’t win after the game."

The Roms have now won three times on the road this season but are still without a home win since way back on January 18.

But Evans is not concerned by the run, adding: "It doesn’t matter where you play, you won’t win if you miss chances – we’ve been playing as well at home as we have on the road and if we keep doing the right things we’ll be okay."

Romulus now head into a home cup double header this week, tomorrow's Trophy clash before meeting Midland Alliance outfit Causeway United in the Birmingham Senior Cup at Coles Lane on Monday night.

Kick off is 7.45pm and Evans said: "Both are very important games – obviously there is money and prestige at stake in the FA Trophy, but the Birmingham Senior Cup is equally important.

"It is a good local competition that we feel we can do well in and it is about us trying to get on a winning roll now. We will be putting a strong side out."

Evans also confirmed that striker Chris Morris had left the club, joining league rivals Newcastle Town.
