Romulus - Weekly Update

“We’re back to the Romulus of old!” was the bold claim of Roms boss Richard Evans this week as he hailed the arrival of eleven new signings, but still insisted his summer transfer spree may not be over.

Evans turned back the clock to add two ex-Roms players – defender Peter Folkes and striker Naveed Arshad – as well as signing fleet footed wingers Cameron Jones, recently with Stratford Town, and Dexter Ravenhill, formerly with Crewe Alexandra.

Experienced goalkeeper Dave Clarke signs from Rugby Town, while midfield powerhouse Nathan Jackson joins from Halesowen Town and defensive duo Nicky Dodds and Gez Mulholland have been snapped up from Sutton.

Giant centre half John Clapp signs from Goodrich, formerly of the West Midlands League, while ex-Tipton Town striker Nicky Campbell and former Castle Vale front runner Danny O’Callaghan complete the overhaul.

Despite the influx of new faces, Evans said that his new look squad had already bonded well, and that the competition for places would stand his charges in good stead.

“The spirit in the dressing room is already absolutely buzzing and we’ve got some real warriors in, which is what we’re about – how we’ll do, only time will tell, but the feeling is that we’re back to the Romulus of old.

“We’ve watched a lot of players to find what we’re looking for and it’s good to have a fierce competition for places.

“We may not be done yet though, it depends what kind of quality is out there – we will not be resting on our laurels.”

The news comes on the back of two of last season’s players trialling with Blue Square Bet Premier clubs – Curtis Wynter is with newly promoted Nuneaton Town while Charisma Agbonlahor, who had agreed to sign for Romulus, has been with AFC Telford United.

Evans added: “Curtis is a nice lad and he’s told us where he’s been – we’re pleased for him. Charisma is trialling at Telford and will not be returning to the squad.”
