Saturday's East Division review

By David Watters

Stamford AFC and Ossett United remain unbeaten in EVO-STIK League East – but neither of them were able to win on Saturday, writes Steve Whitney at Non League Today.

Both Stamford dropped their first points in an amazing 4-4 draw at the Zeeco Stadium against win-less Cleethorpes Town.

Stamford took an early sixth minute lead through Jordan Cooke, only for Jonathan Oglesby to level on 23 minutes. Three minutes later, Joe Burgess restored the Daniels lead and an own goal from Mark Gray five minutes later gave them a 3-1 cushion at the break.

Lewis Collins reduced the arrears on 66 minutes, only for Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson to restore Stamford`s two-goal cushion three minutes later. Oglesby`s second made it 3-4 on 74 minutes and Stamford`s Rob Morgan was sent-off for two yellows in quick succession in the 83rd minute.

Three minutes later, Scott Vernon equalised from the penalty spot and Cleethorpes held on, despite also going down to ten-men in stoppage time when sub Oli Donald was sent-off.

Newly-merged Ossett United shared a 3-3 draw at Ingfield against Belper Town.

Nathan Curtis gave the Nailers a 15th minute lead that Corey Gregory cancelled out within three minutes. Danny South had the visitors back in front against one of his former clubs on 33 minutes and it didn't look good for United when Rikki Paylor added Belper's fourth five minutes before the break.

But Tom Corner on 63 minutes and then a stoppage time Jack Vann equaliser salvaged a point and kept Ossett unbeaten.

Frickley Athletic suffered their first defeat, 3-2 at Westfield Lane against new boys AFC Mansfield.

It was some comeback from the visitors after trailing to goals from Jacob Hazel after seven minutes and Jack Burton after 14 minutes. Lynton Karkach bagged a brace for Mansfield in the 49th and 65th minutes, with Brad Wells winning it four minutes later.

Sheffield FC and Loughborough Dynamo both recorded their first wins of the new season.

Club beat newcomers Pontefract Collieries 5-3 at home, with Marc Newsham bagging a brace, Mitch Dunn, Jamie Yates and Andy Gascoigne singles – an Eli Hey penalty, Jack Greenhough and Jake Picton replying.

Dynamo beat Collieries` former Toolstation Northern Counties East League rivals Pickering Town 4-2 at home – the Pikes' fourth successive defeat.

The hosts led 3-0 at the break with goals from Josh Riley, a Karl Demidh penalty and another on 43 minutes. The Pikes responded with two goals in a minute just after the break from Billy Logan and a Ryan Blott spot-kick, but a fourth in the fourth minute of stoppage time from Jordan Wilson made sure for Dynamo.

Two other new EVO-STIK League sides met with Morpeth Town hammering Wisbech Town 5-2 in the north-east.

The Fenmen led through Layton Maddison`s 18th minute effort before a Nick Jackson own goal cancelled their advantage out right on the stroke of half-time. But five minutes after the break, Tom Potter put Morpeth ahead.

Then Julian Petrache, Stephen Forster and Liam Henderson stretched their advantage to 5-1 by the 84th minute, rendering Danny Setchell's 87th minute reply as just a consolation.

Morpeth's former Ebac Northern League rivals Marske United won 2-0 at Wisbech`s neighbours Spalding United, thanks to Craig Gott after 10 minutes and Damien Stevens on 67 minutes.

There was a back-to-back win for Gresley FC, 2-1 at The Moat against Tadcaster Albion, thanks to a brace of penalties converted by Martyn Smyth in the 42nd and 85th minutes – Taddy replying through Chris Howarth three minutes into stoppage time.

There was a second win too for Brighouse Town, 2-1 at Carlton Town, courtesy of a Kieran Walker own goal in the first half and a late Gabriel Johnson effort nine minutes from time after Ben Hutchinson had equalised five minutes after the opener.

Lincoln United's third win came 2-1 at Ashby Avenue against Stocksbridge Park Steels, with Kevin Hemagou after just two minutes and a Paul Grimes spot-kick six minutes from time outgunning Liam McFadyen's reply five minutes into the second half.
