Saturday's West Division review

By David Watters

Radcliffe FC, Colne and Kidsgrove Athletic are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the EVO-STIK League West after Saturday's round of matches, writes Steve Whitney at Non League Today.

But the headlines were stolen by Atherton Collieries, who hammered point-less Skelmersdale United 9-1 and by Prescot Cables, who beat Chasetown 6-1 at Valerie Park.

Skem even led through Paul Ennis` early sixth minute strike before Ben Hardcastle on 24 minutes, Ian Rowlands on 29 and a Jordan Cover brace on 38 and in first half injury-time, turned it round for Colls to lead 4-1. Rowlands made it a nap hand on 54 minutes and Cover`s second made it 6-1 just 10 minutes later.

Then on 83 minutes, Skem keeper Terry Smith was sent-off after he spilled the ball, Cover picked the ball up and the keeper brought him down. Hardcastle converted the resulting penalty and completed his hat-trick three minutes later before adding a ninth in stoppage time.

Cables beat Chasetown 6-1 – and finished with ten-men!

Jordan Southworth after six minutes, Josh Klein-Davies on 38 minutes and Dan Flood on 43 minutes gave Cables a 3-0 interval lead. Jack Langston reduced the deficit seven minutes into the second half and then Cables had James Edgar shown a straight red card before Klein-Davies made it 4-1 after 56 minutes.

The ten-man added two more from Klein-Davies to complete his hat-trick on 68 minutes and Mike Monaghan eight minutes from time.

Jon Macken`s Radcliffe made it four wins from four games in a 3-0 home win over Colwyn Bay – their first defeat.

Tunde Owolabi gave Boro a great start with a goal inside two minutes and three minutes into the second half, Rick Smith doubled that, with Ben Wharton`s penalty 19 minutes from time settling matters.

Colne kept pace with Radcliffe but had to sweat to a 1-0 home win over newcomers Widnes, courtesy of a Reece Webb-Foster effort four minutes after half-time.

Kidsgrove are also unbeaten, having drawn two and won two after sharing the points at home to Glossop North End, for whom this was a first point after Darryl Mason struck 10 minutes into the second half to cancel out Anthony Malbon's goal right on half-time.

Leek Town joined Colwyn Bay in losing for the first time in 2018-19, 2-1 at Harrison Park against a Clitheroe side for whom this was a first win and first points.

Trailing to Zeph Thomas' 26th minute penalty, the visitors won it with goals in the last 10 minutes from Jason Jeffries and Derek Ubah. Both teams finished with ten-men, with Clitheroe`s Andreas Bianga being shown a straight red on 66 minutes and Niall Green following him for an early shower two minutes later.

Mossley AFC dropped their first points after being held to a 1-1 Seel Park draw by Ramsbottom United, Adam Jones breaking the deadlock to give the home side the lead two minutes after half-time and Lee Gaskell equalising for Rammy on 63 minutes.

Newcastle Town broke their duck with a 1-0 win at Parkside against Kendal Town, thanks to a 65th minute Aaron Bott penalty.

Newly-promoted Runcorn Linnets made it three wins from four games in a 2-1 home win over Trafford, Dan O`Brien bagging a brace for the Linnets after 43 and 75 minutes – Keil O`Brien replying 11 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Market Drayton Town won 3-1 at home to Droylsden, racing into a 2-0 lead inside nine minutes from Matt Ballard and Will Wells. Domaine Rouse pulled one back on the half-hour mark but Stefan Walker's third five minutes before the break killed off the Bloods.
