FA Cup Third Qualifying Round

AFC Fylde hammered Solihull Moors to knock the Evo-Stik Southern League outfit out of the FA Cup, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Manager Dave Challinor's Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division side marched into Monday’s FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round draw with a comprehensive victory on the Fylde coast.

Joe Booth gave the home side the boost of a 12th minute lead that Michael Barnes added to 17 minutes later. Ryan Beswick reduced the deficit for Moors on 58 minutes, but two goals in four minutes midway through the second half from Barnes again and Ritchie Allen sealed Fylde’s passage.

Two goals in the last 15 minutes ensured struggling Hinckley United are still in the hat for Monday's draw after they pegged back Evo-Stik NPL First Division North Ossett Albion to 2-2.

Harvey Headley had brought United back into the game at 1-2 after 76 minutes following Adam Hayton’s ninth minute opener and goal on 73 minutes from Tom Corner. A superb strike from debutant Max Harrop on 70 minutes then earned Hinckley a deserved replay at Albion’s Dimple Wells on Tuesday.

The second half was a tense affair with the Albion manager sent to the stands midway through the half and playing the last 15 minutes with ten-men.

Altrincham took 70 minutes to break down Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South hosts Leek Town and when they did so it was a controversial goal.

From a corner, Damian Reeves's effort was hooked away but referee Lucas ruled that the ball had crossed the line. In the protests afterwards, Leek's keeper was booked.

After a fairly lacklustre first half, Altrincham dominated the second period and Leek were reduced to ten-men after 75 minutes when Danny Smith was sent off for a second yellow card offence. Simon Richman added a second a minute from time, looping the ball into the far corner of the net.

An action packed game that was great for the neutral but did little for heart rates of both sets of supporters, saw Conference North Harrogate Town come out on top in 3-2 thriller at the CNG Stadium against battling Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Frickley Athletic.

Frickley took a second minute lead through former Harrogate player Jimmy Ghaichem only for Town to hit back twice through Paul Beesley on 15 and 23 minutes. Frickley equalised halfway through the first period through Gavin Allott and the second half saw chances at both ends before Adam Bolder rattled in a 30 yard effort 17 minutes from time.

The action wasn't finished as Lee Elam was sent-off following a skirmish with Ghaichem shortly afterwards, but the hosts held on.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South side Carlton Town's FA Cup run is over after a 3-1 defeat at home to Harrogate's league rivals Bradford Park Avenue.

Bradford always looked likely to win once Paul Walker had opened the scoring on 27 minutes, firing home from outside the area after being allowed too much time on the ball.

The Millers fought back and Matt Varley equalised from the spot on 32 minutes after Reuben Wiggins-Thomas was fouled by goalkeeper Tim Deasy. But the visitors were soon ahead again when Tom Greaves crashed home off the underside of the crossbar.

But for Carlton goalkeeper Martin Kearney Avenue would have been out of sight before half time. As it was, their third goal didn't arrive until the 77th minute when Richard Marshall clinically fired home from the edge of the box.

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division strugglers Whitby Town went out 3-1 at Bower Fold against Conference North hosts Stalybridge Celtic, who had to come back from being a fifth minute Tom Portas goal down to win, courtesy of Jamie Mullen on 16 minutes, Jordan Barrow on 35 and then Greg Wilkinson in the 65th minute.

Elsewhere, the three all Evo-Stik NPL ties went pretty much to form.

Premier Division Marine had a tough test at First Division North high-flyers Trafford, but came through safely to earn a place in Monday's draw.

The Mariners had to come back from being a goal behind when Will Ahern gave the hosts the lead just before the break. But immediately after the restart Nick Rogan levelled and then Danny Grannon on 77 minutes and Andy Fowler six minutes from time saw the visitors through.

Premier Division Ilkeston FC won 4-2 at the New Manor Ground against First Division South Gresley FC, but the scoreline was arguably a little flattering to Kevin Wilson's side.

Aaron Hooton's ninth minute opener for the Robins was cancelled out in spectacular fashion with a Marc Goodfellow free-kick from 25 yards. Daryll Thomas then bagged a brace for the home side on 31 and 55 minutes before Goodfellow replied with another stunner – this time a volley from the edge of the box – two minutes later. But Matt Richards scored a fourth for Ilkeston with two minutes remaining to give a slightly harsh look to the outcome.

The tie between Premier Division rivals Hednesford Town and Buxton will need to be decided on Wednesday after a 2-2 draw at Keys Park on Saturday.

It looked as though the Pitmen were cruising as they led 2-0 with goals from Dave MacPherson and Nathan Woolfe within six minutes of each other midway through the first half. But the Bucks fought back to earn a replay with goals from Kyle Nix on the hour-mark and Mark Reed 20 minutes from time.
