Mossley maintained their five-point lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North table after a hard-fought win against Warrington Town at Seel Park on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Warrington had to overcome the loss of two key players when, firstly after 20 minutes, the game changed as Fraser Ablett was shown a straight red card.

And with 17 minutes to go, Warrington were reduced to nine-men as Kevin Townson saw red after picking up two yellow cards. Mossley eventually took advantage as Sam Madeley scored with just six minutes remaining to give the table-toppers all three points.

Second-placed Clitheroe secured a more comfortable 3-1 home win over second-bottom Goole AFC.

New signing Mark Buchan gave the home side a 26th minute lead that Alex Johnson doubled 7 minutes later. Just two minutes after that Leon Williams made it 3-0, and only four minutes on, Jack Cross reduced the deficit.

However, despite that rapid burst of goals, no more came and the Lancastrians are two points in front of Skelmersdale United, who won 2-0 at Irongate against Bamber Bridge. Louis Corrigan bagged both of Skem`s goals in the 37th and 71st minute.

Garforth Town remain rooted to the bottom after losing 5-0 at Burscough, for whom Darren Brookfield netted a hat-trick in the fifth, 48th and 70th minutes. In between, Paul Williams and Louis Mayers added to the rout.

Lancaster City enjoyed a good day, winning 4-0 at Station View against Harrogate Railway with Tom Kilifin bagging a brace on 39 and 80 minutes after Rob Wilson had given the Dolly Blues a 17th minute lead. Billy McKenna added the other on 41 minutes.

A goal just two minutes from time from David Fitzpatrick sealed New Mills' home success over Ramsbottom United, while Ossett Town and Radcliffe Borough couldn't manage a goal between them at the Stade France Stadium.

Strugglers Wakefield were dumped 3-0 at home by Salford City, for whom Rob Kinsella, Gavin Salmon and Andy Heald scored second half goals, and Curzon Ashton won 2-1 at Cammell Laird, whose Joe Feeney gave them a 21st minute lead only to be overturned by Sam Walker on the hour-mark and Lee Blackshaw 12 minutes later.

The other game saw Farsley AFC moved into fifth place after Ryan Watson's 21st minute effort eventually proved enough at Prescot Cables.
