Saturday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Curzon Ashton are the only side in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North with a 100 per cent record after Saturday`s round of fixtures, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Curzon inflicted a first defeat on Clitheroe at the Tameside Stadium, courtesy of a last-gasp Jordan Wright effort. And Northwich Victoria, Lancaster City, Salford City and Wakefield are yet to taste defeat so far this season.

Two of those teams – Northwich and Salford – shared a goalless draw at Moor Lane, while Lancaster were also involved in a 0-0 encounter at newly-promoted Padiham.

Wakefield also drew at home against Ossett Albion, for whom this was a first point of the season. However, it was the visitors who left the more disappointed as they perhaps should have won the game. Albion took the lead after only three minutes with a well-worked free-kick which ended with Henry Owen stretching out a foot to poke the ball into the Wakefield net.

This acted to spur Wakefield to greater efforts and they equalised through David Bordman on the half-hour mark. Albion restored their lead five minutes before the interval when Dale Kelly scored his third goal of the season. Before the break they had more chances to put the game out of Wakefield's reach but were unable to take them. In the second half the play became scrappy and, although Albion hit the crossbar and had other chances to extend their lead, Wakefield's persistence gained them an equaliser on the hour-mark through Harrison Blakey.

In contrast, both Ramsbottom United and Radcliffe Borough are yet to pick up a point. Rammy were beaten 1-0 at Warrington Town, for whom Liam Dawson scored on 38 minutes to record the Wire`s first win, while Boro were comprehensively beaten 4-0 at Irongate by Bamber Bridge. Loan signing Curtis Haley had a dream debut as he scored the first goal after 14 minutes. Ali Waddecar in the 28th and Greg Johnstone five minutes later made it 3-0 at the break, with Matty Kay adding a fourth on 65 minutes.

Harrogate Railway were another side to break their duck in the win column after a 4-2 success at Kirklands against Cammell Laird. Goals from Nathan Cartman after 18 minutes, Paul Beesley on 39, subs Jesus Martin-Farina on 85 and Colin Hunter two minutes into extra time did the damage for the Railwaymen with Michael Grogan on 71mins and sub Daley Woods on 86 replying for Lairds.

Elsewhere, New Mills edged a nine-goal thriller at Kendal Town when an injury-time winner saw them take the three points after the hosts battled back from three-down. James Hampson and a Jamie Rother brace had the Millers 3-0 ahead by the 20th minute. Maison McGeechan on 32 minutes, Danny Mitchley two minutes later and Danny Coid four minutes after that, pulled the Cumbrians back on level terms, only for Scott Metcalfe to restore the visitors' lead on 42 minutes for the first half's seventh goal! Jordan Connerton eventually equalised seven minutes from time as defences tightened, but up popped Carlos Meakin to grab the Millers winner in time added on.

There were six goals at Throstle Nest where Farsley AFC came out on top 4-2 against newly-promoted Darlington 1883. Rob O`Brien gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot after 13 minutes and then a quickfire Aiden Savory brace on 31 and 34 minutes put Neil Parsley's side in command. Andy Johnson reduced the arrears right on half-time, but the Quakers fell 4-1 behind on 56 minutes when Savory completed his hat-trick, rendering Steve Thompson`s 73rd minute reply as a consolation.

There were six more goals at Ingfield, but this time they were shared between Ossett Town and Mossley. Nick Wood put the home side in front after 10 minutes only for Kevin McGrath to level within three minutes. Fernando Moke restored Town`s lead 10 minutes after half-time and then added a third 10 minutes later. Sam Madeley pulled a second back for the Mossley nine minutes later and then John Bennett equalised on 86 minutes.

Burscough and Prescot Cables also shared a draw at Victoria Park where Kyle Riley put the visitors in front after only four minutes. Liam Caddick levelled on 12 minutes and a couple of minutes later Connor McCarthy restored Cables` lead, only for Jordan Williams to eventually equalise for the Linnets 16 minutes from time.
