The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South now possesses only one team with a 100 record after Saturday`s round of matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Carlton Town`s fine 2-0 win at The Grove against Halesowen Town saw them top the fledgling table, thanks to a Ruben Wiggins-Thomas brace of penalties in the second and 48th minutes.

Romulus, Leek Town, Goole AFC and Coalville Town remain unbeaten thus far.

Roms eased to a 4-0 Coles Lane win over Kidsgrove Athletic with goals from Tom Turton after 26 minutes, Tyrone Amory two minutes later and Marcus Brown on 34 minutes, with Amory adding a fourth 20 minutes from time.

Leek shared a goalless draw at last season`s long-time leaders Coalville, while Goole were also held to a 2-2 draw at Market Drayton Town after three of the goals came in a five minute spell either side of the half-time whistle. Jack Woolley put the Vikings in front on 41 minutes, Yannick Makota equalised three minutes later and then Kayelden Brown gave Drayton the lead a minute after the break from the spot. Steve Wakefield equalised in the 58th minute to keep Goole unbeaten.

Brigg Town were comprehensively hammered 6-2 at the Hawthorns to become the only team yet to pick up a point. Chris Adam and Colin Marrison for the Nailers and Paul Grimes from the spot for the Zebras, saw the score 2-1 to the visitors at the break. However, the Nailers tore the hosts apart in the second period with goals from Adam again, Jon Froggatt with a brace and Shaun Tuton. Jordan Thewlis replied.

Saturday's action also saw first wins for Gresley FC and Lincoln United.

The Moatmen won 1-0 at Scarborough Athletic in front of a good crowd of 518, thanks to a Rob Spencer effort on 53 minutes, while United won 2-1 at the Lyme Valley Stadium against Newcastle Town in which Andy Hutchinson put the visitors in front after six minutes from the spot only for Ricky Bridge to level seven minutes later – Sean Cann winning it on 62 minutes.

Eastwood Town had a good 3-1 win at The Oval against switched Bedworth United. A Richard Whyman penalty gave the Badgers an 11th minute lead that Aden Moore cancelled out right on half-time. But Greg Simmons on 67 minutes, and Gavin Hurren three minutes from time, turned the game in the Badgers` favour.

Rainworth Miners Welfare won by the same scoreline at home against Chasetown, also taking an 11th minute lead through Jason Bradley. But two own goals in six second half minutes put the Wrens 3-0 up, with Nick Wellecomme reducing the deficit 12 minutes from time.

Sheffield FC were heading for a second win at home against Loughborough Dynamo until Jake Betts popped up with an equaliser seven minutes from time. Earlier, Andy Gascoigne`s 35th minute penalty had been cancelled out by Kris Nurse and then Joel Purkiss' 54th minute second looked to have won it for Club until Betts' intervention.
