Saturday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Saturday turned out to be a good day for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North leaders Curzon Ashton as they stretched their advantage at the top to a massive twelve points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Tamesiders eased to a 2-0 home win over bottom-markers Ossett Albion and then returned to the dressing room to learn of second-placed Warrington Town`s home defeat by mid-table Northwich Victoria and third-placed Darlington 1883`s goalless draw at lowly Prescot Cables.

Goals at either end of the game were enough for Curzon as Simon Woodford in the eighth minute and Ryan Brooke in the 87th saw off battling Albion.

At Cantilever Park, Aboubacar Sanogo proved to be Northwich`s hero, bagging a brace in the 25th and 60th minutes, with Michael Clarke netting the third on 79 minutes. All the Wire could muster was a last-gasp Carlos Meakin effort.

Lancaster City moved three points clear in fourth after a comfortable 4-1 win at Stainton Park against third-bottom Radcliffe Borough.

Jordan Connerton gave the Dolly Blues a great start with a goal inside two minutes. Ryan Winder on 10 minutes, Gavin Clark seven minutes later and then Connerton again after 33 minutes, threatened a real rout. But Boro recovered their composure and managed a response through Bevan Burey midway through the second period.

A thunderstorm saw Ramsbottom United`s game at home to fifth-placed Farsley AFC called off, leaving Bamber Bridge to move to sixth, level on points after a 2-1 Irongate win over fourth-bottom New Mills.

Raducio King gave the Millers a 15th minute lead they held until five minutes into the second half when Alex Taylor levelled. And the same player won it for Brig with eight minutes to go.

Elsewhere, Mossley AFC saw off Harrogate Railway Athletic 2-0 at Seel Park, courtesy of goals from Wayne Welbeck – brother of Manchester United`s Danny – in the 49th and 69th minutes.

Burscough won 2-1 at Padiham with goals from Connor Roberts after 33 minutes and Jordan Williams on 63 after Kieron Pickup had equalised for the Storks five minutes after half-time.

The game between Clitheroe and Cammell Laird finished all-square at 2-2, with Jamie Henders` 37th minute penalty being finally overhauled with goals from James Walker after 76 minutes and Daniel Wilkins seven minutes later, only for James Foley to grab a last-gasp leveller for Laird.
