Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North leaders Curzon Ashton completed March without conceding a goal and made it nine clean sheets on the bounce and almost 14 hours without conceding a goal after hammering Prescot Cables 6-0 on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Jordan Wright gave the home side the boost of an early third minute lead but Cables didn’t concede again until just before half-time. Unfortunately for them, they conceded two to Ryan Brooke and Niall Cummins. And it wasn`t until 10 minutes from time that Curzon managed to add to their tally through Matty Warburton, with Cummins again and Chris Rowney adding two more soon afterwards to make it 6-0.

Darlington 1883 are second, albeit eleven points behind Curzon, who still have two games in hand, after a 3-0 home win over third-bottom Radcliffe Borough.

Nathan Fisher gave the Quakers a 19th minute lead that Ian Ward added to on 33 minutes. And a fairly routine win was completed midway through the second half when Dave Dowson made it 3-0 in front of a terrific 1,040 crowd.

Warrington Town returned to winning ways to remain three points behind the Quakers but eight in front of sixth-placed Lancaster City, after also winning 3-0 at home against Clitheroe.

Ben Wharton gave the Wire a 17th minute lead and Scott Metcalfe doubled their lead nine minutes before the break, with the third goal coming immediately after the interval.

The other two play-off places look to be between Ramsbottom United, Bamber Bridge, Lancaster and Farsley AFC.

Rammie were another side to win comfortably 3-0 at home, with mid-table Kendal Town the victims of goals from Phil Dean in the opening minute, Gary Stopforth after 32 minutes and Dean again five minutes before half-time.

Brig, however, were held to a 1-1 Irongate draw by Northwich Victoria, for whom Josh Amis gave them a 10th minute lead that Alex Taylor cancelled out in the 24th minute.

The other two contenders met at the Giant Axe and shared a 2-2 draw. But the Dolly Blues will be the happier with a point as they trailed 2-0 to goals from Matt Young after 12 minutes and Adam Priestley just before the break. A Tom Kilifin brace in the 54th and 74th minutes pulled Darren Peacock`s side back on level terms.

Elsewhere, bottom-markers Ossett Albion were beaten 2-1 at Dimple Wells by Burscough, for whom Liam Caddick scored both goals in the sixth and 35th minutes after Scott Turner had given Albion a second minute lead.

Salford City were unable to take their celebrations of their impending takeover forward into Saturday`s game, going down to a 3-1 Moor Lane defeat to New Mills, whose Wes Bancroft gave them a third minute lead that Dave Chadwick cancelled out. But goals from Michael Fish in the 47th and 66th minutes sealed the Millers` win.

Cammell Laird - whose Joe Evans bagged a brace either side of a Joe Gibiliru effort – scored hosts Padiham`s goal as well with a 32nd minute Chay Dysart own goal as they also triumphed 3-1 away from home.
