Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town turned party-poopers as they toppled newly-crowned Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North champions Curzon Ashton with a thrilling 2-3 victory at the Tameside Stadium on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of a crowd of 456, Warrington twice came from behind, thanks to two goals from Ciaran Kilheeney, including a penalty in the first half to make it 1-1 after Sam Walker had given the hosts the lead and a near post header in the second half to level at 2-2 following Chris Young`s 36th minute second for Curzon.

Then with the game finely balanced Scott Metcalfe lobbed the keeper from 40 yards in the 76th minute to claim a fine victory against the champions, who were presented with the league trophy after the final whistle.

The victory kept Warrington in third place and on course for the play-offs and their own promotion dream alive.

Darlington 1883 are three points ahead of Warrington after beating Padiham 3-0 at Heritage Park.

A crowd of 1,012 saw Stephen Thompson give the Quakers a 27th minute lead. Amar Purewal then bagged a second half brace in the 53rd and 90th minutes to seal victory.

Bamber Bridge, Ramsbottom United, Lancaster City and Farsley AFC are left to fight it out for the two other remaining play-off places.

Brig saw off Lancashire neighbours Clitheroe 2-0 at Irongate, thanks to goals from Greg Johnstone after 10 minutes and Ali Waddecar in the 54th, while Farsley and Rammie met at Throstle Nest which the home side edged by the odd goal in five.

Lee Gaskell gave the visitors a great start with a goal inside inside minutes, only for Aiden Savory to level seven minutes later. Jordan Hulme then restored Rammie`s lead in the 37th minute and they held that until right at the end when Adam Priestley and then Ross Daley turned the game dramatically in the Yorkshire side`s favour.

Lancaster maintained their challenge with a comfortable 3-0 win at Ingfield against Ossett Town.

Lee Dodgson gave the Dolly Blues the lead a minute before half-time and then a Tom Kilifin brace on 59 and 67 minutes sealed victory.

Wakefield, already dropping down, aided third-bottom Prescot Cables' survival hopes with a 1-0 defeat at home – Phil Bannister`s 81st minute penalty winning it for Cables.

Elsewhere, Mossley AFC had a good 3-0 win at Burscough, courtesy of goals from Wayne Welbeck in the 60th and 67th minutes, sandwiched by a Tom Dean effort on 62 minutes.

Kendal Town won 3-1 at Parkside against Harrogate Railway in which Mike Rushton bagged a brace in the 16th and 28th minutes and Warren Beattie the other from the spot eight minutes from time after Nathan Cartman had replied, also from the spot, on 64 minutes.

Radcliffe Borough put Ossett Albion out of their misery with a 2-1 win at Dimple Wells, thanks to goals from James Mullineux in the fith and 78th minutes – Scott Turner having levelled on 37 minutes.

And Northwich Victoria won 2-1 at Flixton against New Mills, with Ashley Stott opening the home account a minute before half-time and then Josh Amis adding a second on 61 minutes. Wes Bancroft replying five minutes later.
