Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Northwich Victoria warmed up for their FA Cup replay at Boreham Wood by hammering bottom-markers New Mills 5-1 to return to the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney

Vics head to the Wood in the first round on Monday night hoping to book an away day at Northhampton Town and Josh Amis gave them an 11th minute lead that Dean McGregor immediately cancelled out.

Gary Burnett and a Michael Clarke brace had Vics 4-1 up by the 28th minute but they took their foot off the gas and only added one, Aboubacar Sanogo netting nine minutes from time.

Third-placed Glossop North End were on the end of a surprise 3-2 home defeat by Ossett Albion, who led through Rob Bordman on 45 and Nick Matthews on 55 minutes.

They were pegged back by goals from Josh Brizell and Jamie Rainford within a minute of each other midway through the second half before Bordman popped up with his second, and Albion`s winner, in stoppage time.

Clitheroe are fourth after hitting Droylsden for six.

The Bloods led through Will Hasler-Clegg`s fifth minute opener before Sefton Gonzales, Scott Harries, Michael Hampson with two, and Jon Hession with another brace, made the final score 6-1.

Trafford are sixth after a 2-1 home win against Mossley AFC, courtesy of Jack Dorney and Sam Noar after Michael Fish had given the Lilywhites a 19th minute lead.

Kendal Town won 3-1 at Station View against Harrogate Railway Athletic with goals from Gary Hunter, Sam Bailey and Jordan Connerton.

Elsewhere, Prescot Cables saw off struggling Witton Albion 2-1 at Wincham Park, thanks to Rob Doran and Joe Nicholson – Jamie Mernagh having equalised.

Farsley Celtic enjoyed a welcome 3-1 Throstle Nest victory over Scarborough Athletic with goals from Rob O`Brien and Paul Walker immediately before the break and Aiden Savory six minutes from time – all after Ryan Blott had given Boro the lead from the spot.

Bamber Bridge salvaged a point three minutes from time at Irongate against Lancaster City, courtesy of Sam Joel after Ryan Linney`s fifth minute opener had been overturned by Gavin Clark on 29 minutes and Ryan Winder 13 minutes from time.
