Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Two games in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North started on Saturday but failed to finish, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Harrogate Railway Athletic were left cursing their luck after their local derby with Ossett Town was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch with Rail 3-0 up.

And at Brighouse Town, the referee deemed the conditions unsafe and would not not restart the game against Radcliffe Borough at the break.

Leaders Northwich Victoria made it sixteen wins from seventeen matches with a 2-0 success at Valerie Park against Prescot Cables.

Stuart Cook after 20 minutes and a Richard Bennett effort right on the stroke of half-time proved to be enough for the Vics to move six points clear at the top of the table.

Third-placed Glossop North End were held to a 2-2 home draw by Bamber Bridge.

In dreadful conditions, Stuart Vasey gave the visiting Brig a 15th minute lead that Kieran Lugsden cancelled out five minutes before half-time, only for Curtis Thompson to restore the visitors lead four minutes later. Tom Bailey equalised for the Hillians with 11 minutes remaining.

Ossett Albion`s fourth successive win has taken them up to sixth in the table. And they did their goal difference a power of good too after hitting Clitheroe for six at Dimple Wells.

Little was seen of the carnage to come as Albion led through Dominic Riordan`s 27th minute goal at half-time. But as conditions worsened, Connor Brunt doubled their lead two minutes after the interval and, after Sefton Gonzales had pulled one back for the Blues, Rob Bordman bagged a brace either side of strikes from Nicky Matthews and Luke Porritt.

Mossley AFC are seventh after winning 3-0 at the Giant Axe against Lancaster City.

Kyle McGonigle put the Lilywhites ahead after less than four minutes had gone on the clock. He then added his and Mossley`s second six minutes into the second half, with Tom Dean making it game over with a third a minute later.

Farsley Celtic won 2-0 at Throstle Nest against Trafford with goals from Aaron Hardy and Aiden Savory in the final 2 minutes of the game.

And at the Butcher`s Arms, Kendal Town beat hosts Droylsden by the odd goal in seven.

Nathan Brondswell gave the Cumbrians a 24th minute lead that Ben Barber cancelled out 3 minutes later.

But the Mintcakes then raced into a 4-1 lead with goals from Sam Bailey from the spot five minutes before the break, Jordan Connerton eight minutes after it and then Dan Wilkins on 67 minutes.

Lee O`Brien pulled a second back for the Bloods two minutes later and then Domaine Rouse made the visitors sweat when he made it 3-4 with a minute to go, but Kendal held on.
