Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Only five matches survived the weather in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And with leaders Northwich Victoria on FA Cup duty, Warrington Town managed to get their game on at Cantilever Park against fellow promotion contenders Spennymoor Town.

Their 1-0 win, courtesy of a goal just before the hour-mark from Chris Gahgan, moved the Wire to within three points of the Vics, who possess a couple of games in hand.

The Moors are seventh while Burscough and Ossett Albion occupy fourth and fifth places after both won away from home.

The Linnets achieved a good 3-0 win at Queensgate against an inconsistent Scarborough Athletic side who were expected to be challengers this season.

Paul Williams gave the visitors a great start with a goal inside the opening two minutes. Andy Lewis eventually added a second a couple of minutes after half-time and a second for Williams 11 minutes from time secured the points.

A single goal from Luke Porritt in the fifth minute proved enough for much-improved Ossett Albion at Trafford.

Brighouse Town leap-frogged Mossley AFC into eighth place thanks to a 2-1 Seel Park victory, thanks to Tom Haigh after 73 minutes and Ryan Hall three minutes later, all after Dave Short had given the Lilywhites a 16th minute lead.

The day`s only other game saw Droylsden`s weird season continue with a good 3-2 win at Ingfield against Ossett Town.

The Bloods, who have recently lost 6-1 and 5-1 and won 4-2 and 3-2, took a 17th minute lead through Dominic Smith.

Carlos Edmondson-Rouse doubled that 15 minutes later. But Town levelled with two goals in a minute just before the break through Josh Moore and David Brown, only for Ross Shelton to restore the visitors` lead 10 minutes after the break with what proved to be the winner.
