Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Warrington Town overtook inactive long-time leaders Northwich Victoria at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Wire enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 win at Ingfield against third-bottom Ossett Town while the Vics` game was one of six postponed on the day.

Nathan Burke gave Warrington a 35th minute lead that Chris Gahgan added to 3 minutes after half-time.

Ciaran Kilheeney made it 3-0 from the penalty spot on 68 minutes and James McCarten added a fourth with 7 minutes to go.

The only other side in the top five to play on Saturday were Burscough – and they may have wished they hadn`t after going down to a best-of-five defeat at home against a now mid-table Witton Albion.

It started well enough for the Linnets as Will Jones gave them a 27th minute lead.

But Callum Hassan equalised just past the half-hour mark and eventually Jamie Matthews took Witton in front after 62 minutes.

Rob Hopley made sure with the visitors` third on 85 minutes, but Burscough`s Liam Rice replied less than a minute later to ensure a nervy finale for Albion fans.

The form side are Farsley Celtic and they made it seven successive wins with a comfortable 4-0 Throstle Nest success against still win-less bottom-markers New Mills.

Paddy Miller and Aiden Savory scored in the 2nd and 3rd minutes to threaten a real hammering on the Millers.

Ross Daly added a third after 20 minutes and it was 4-0 just before half-time through Lewis Nightingale.

But that`s how the scoreline remained as the foot was taken off the gas in the second period.

Lancaster City moved to within five points of the top five after Tom Kilifin`s 71st minute strike was eventually enough to see off second-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The only other game saw a bad start for new Scarborough Athletic boss Steve Kittrick as they were beaten 3-0 at Queensgate by Bamber Bridge.

Chris Marlow after 26 minutes and then a Jamie Milligan brace after 51 minutes – from the spot – and then 78 minutes were the Brig marksmen.
