Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division suffered four postponements on Saturday but the top five were all in action, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Leaders Blyth Spartans won 1-0 at The Grove against play-off chasers Halesowen Town, Robbie Dale`s 66th minute penalty ensuring Spartans lead the table by four points.

Nantwich Town dropped to third after they were beaten by the same scoreline at Dales Lane by Rushall Olympic, whose third successive win has lifted them up to seventh in the table.

Alex Reid`s 36th minute effort eventually proved enough for the Pics while vSalford City leapfrogged the Dabbers into second spot after easing to a 4-0 Moor Lane victory over Skelmersdale United.

In front of 660, John Johnston gave the Ammies an early fifth minute lead that Jamie Poole doubled 10 minutes later. Alfreton Town loanee Johnston added his second and the home side`s third in the 35th minute.

A minute into the second half Jordan Hulme made it 4-0 and, despite a number of chances to make it an even bigger scoreline, Skem managed to hold them to four.

Fourth met fifth at Borough Park and Workington AFC inflicted a 5-2 mauling on Ashton United to maintain their two-point advantage over the visitors.

Connor Tinnion gave the Reds a 2-0 lead by the half-hour mark. Martin Pilkington reduced the deficit five minutes after the break but Tinnion completed his hat-trick on 73 minutes and four minutes later Scott Allison made it 4-1.

Allison`s second on 86 minutes made it a nap hand for the hosts, although Eddie Toner did manage a second for the visitors in stoppage time.

Barwell have suffered some strange results recently but their 4-0 win at Kirkby Road against Ilkeston FC pushed them back up to ninth place, only five points off a play-off spot.

Anthony Carney opened the Canaries` account after nine minutes and Alex Tomkinson doubled that lead right on half-time. Richard Lavery virtually made it game over with a third on 69 minutes but Jamie Towers made sure with the fourth with 14 minutes remaining.

Inconsistent Grantham Town showed their bad side on Saturday as they suffered a 4-0 drubbing by bottom-markers Ramsbottom United at The Meres.

Kayde Coppin put Rammy in front after 12 minutes and then two minutes before half-time Alex Meaney added a second for the visitors. David Kuba-Kuba made it 3-0 just eight minutes after the restart and Rammy`s fourth win of the season to date was confirmed when Meaney added his second of the game from the penalty spot on the hour-mark.

To show there were no hard feelings about suffering a home loss, the Gingerbreads supporters had a collection towards Ramsbottom`s awful flood damage!

Second-bottom Stamford AFC picked up a point from a 2-2 draw at the Zeeco Stadium against Stourbridge.

Karl Hawley gave the visiting Glassboys a 27th minute lead that Chris Lait eventually added to just past the hour-mark. A Kristian Green own goal pulled the Daniels back into the game on 64 minutes and then Chris Hamilton equalised in injury-time.

Sutton Coldfield Town and Hyde United shared a goalless draw on the Coles Lane artificial surface in the day`s other game.
