Saturday's First Division North review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Only four games were possible in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Saturday because of the wet weather, with overnight leaders Curzon Ashton`s game at Burscough being one of the casualties, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, Warrington Town managed to get their game against Salford City on at Cantilever Park. And three first half goals were enough to secure Warrington a return to the top of the table with a 3-1 victory.

Ciaran Kilheeney scored a brace on 14 and 40 minutes, either side of Carlos Meakin's tap in on 22 minutes to put the hosts well in control at half-time. And despite significant pressure from Salford in the second half, all they could muster was Mark Battersby's well-taken goal with the very last kick of the game.

Bamber Bridge are fifth after hammering Padiham 5-1 at Irongate.

Curtis Thompson gave Brig a 31st minute breakthrough and Tom Williams doubled that a minute before the break. Just two minutes into the second half and Ali Waddecar made it 3-0, and although Louis Mayers reduced the deficit on 66 minutes, Zach Clark and Waddecar again completed the nap hand in the final 10 minutes.

Lancaster City remain level on points with Bamber Bridge, but they could only muster a 1-0 win against bottom-markers Ossett Albion at the Giant Axe. In a subdued game, the only goal was a cracker from Mark Jackson in the 57th minute.

Ramsbottom United moved to within a point of the Dolly Blues in seventh after winning the derby 4-2 at Clitheroe.

Matt McNamara gave the home side a 13th minute lead that lasted barely a minute as Chris Denham equalised. Paul Coote restored the Blues' advantage three minutes into the second period but again they could only hold that advantage for five minutes as Denham levelled again.

And then Billy Priestley put Rammy ahead for the first time with eight minutes to go and Grant Spencer made sure from the penalty spot in time added on.
