Evo-Stik Northern Premier League

There was a bit of a goal fest in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And of course, leaders Coalville Town had to be one of those in the goals, beating the improved Market Drayton Town 5-2 away from home to remain four points clear.

Ryan Robbins netted a hat-trick for the Ravens in the 12 minutes leading up to the half-time break. Craig Ryan reduced the deficit seven minutes after the interval, but Callum Woodward's penalty on 72 minutes and Brodie Blankley's fifth seven minutes from time made it nap for the visitors, rendering Shaun Humphreys' 89th minute effort as just a consolation for the hosts.

King's Lynn Town remain in second spot, but left it late against Halesowen Town at The Walks.

In front of a crowd of 621, Steve Spriggs gave the Linnets a 27th minute lead that Ben Haseley cancelled out six minutes before half-time. Danny Beaumont restored the home side's lead on the hour-mark, but Mitch Botfield looked to have earned the Yeltz a share of the spoils with an 81st minute equaliser. Jason Turner popped up with a winner two minutes from time to ensure the Linnets matched Coalville's points haul on Saturday.

Stamford AFC are third and they beat another promotion contender, Sheffield FC, 4-1 at Kettering Road.

Ricky Miller gave the Daniels a 15th minute lead that Greg Smith doubled on 38 minutes. Miller's second around the hour-mark made the game virtually safe for the Daniels, although Matt Roney did pull one back from the spot in the 80th minute. But Smith`s second made it 4-1 to Graham Drury's side.

Gresley FC moved above Sutton Coldfield Town into fourth place on goal difference after both endured 3-2 verdicts.

The Moatmen won at home against Loughborough Dynamo, Phil Massingham giving the hosts a 28th minute lead that Rob Norris cancelled out from the spot on 56 minutes, only for Jamie Barrett to restore Gresley's lead two minutes later. In-demand James Jepson made it 3-1 to the hosts on 66 minutes, but Jake Dale-Brown made it a nervy finale with a second in stoppage time for Dynamo.

The Royals were on the wrong end of a five goal defeat at Ashby Avenue against improving Lincoln United. United made it ten points from a possible twelve in the last fortnight and have now won five out of the last nine games.

Ben Garrick grabbed a brace in the first half following a goal from Dean Rathbone for the league's form team Sutton Coldfield. Right on half time David Coyde grabbed his third of the season which proved vital as Rathbone found the net again on the hour-mark but United stood firm.

Chasetown were the day's highest scorers, hammering Kidsgrove Athletic 6-1 at The Scholars.

Nick Wellecomme netted a hat-trick for the hosts who had Theo Robinson, Danny Ashton and Scott Rickards also on target – Andy Kinsey netting a last-gasp consolation.

Belper Town contributed to the end of Andy Mutch's tenure as manager of Northwich Victoria after winning 2-1 at Marston Road with Shaun Tuton and Richard Stirrup outgunning Michael Connor for the hosts.

Matthew Lowe's 77th minute penalty proved enough for Newcastle Town at the Lyme Valley Stadium against Carlton Town, while managerless Hucknall Town stay bottom after losing 2-0 at Watnall Road to Mickleover Sports, Rob Ritchie-Smith and Mike Williams scoring within six minutes shortly before half-time.

Brigg Town stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a 1-1 draw at Coles Lane against Romulus. Adam Lee gave the Zebras the lead in the 77th minute only for the hosts to equalise in the final minute through Nick Campbell. Brigg remain in eleventh place in the table.

Leek Town and Rainworth Miners Welfare also shared the spoils at Harrison Park where goals from George Melling and Karl Charlton either side of the break were pulled back by Lee Cooksey on 67 minutes and Jordan Turner five minutes from time.
