Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

Coalville Town were the only leaders of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's three divisions to increase their advantage on Saturday when moving an amazing thirteen points clear in the First Division South table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Ravens won 1-0 at Coles Lane against second-bottom Romulus, courtesy of Ryan Robbins' early fifth minute effort. However, they returned to the dressing room to discover that only Sutton Coldfield Town in the top five had managed to win on Saturday.

The Royals mirrored Coalville's win by beating Northwich Victoria at Marston Road with a 73rd minute Louis Keenan goal.

But the biggest shock was second-placed King's Lynn Town's 4-2 defeat at The Walks by bottom-markers Hucknall Town!

No doubt the majority of the crowd of 579 came to see a drubbing for the visitors but left after witnessing a poor defensive performance by the home side.

Matt Millns gave Hucknall a 29th minute lead that new signing Shane Tolley equalised three minutes later. But Karl Demidh after 38 minutes, Alex Ford just after half-time and Julian Topliss on 54 minutes gave the Nottinghamshire side a shock 4-1 lead that Lynn could only reduce by one through Tolley again 18 minutes from time.

Stamford AFC were held to a 1-1 draw at Ashby Avenue by neighbours Lincoln United, whose Scott Coupland gave them a 23rd minute lead that Ricky Miller cancelled out on the hour-mark.

Gresley FC though were beaten 2-0 at The Moat by sixth-placed Carlton Town. Goals at the start of each half from Matt Varley and Ryan Whitehurst saw Carlton home.

Halesowen Town are seventh after a 1-0 win at The Grove against Market Drayton Town, thanks to a ninth minute Ben Haseley effort.

Elsewhere, Newcastle Town earned a good 4-0 win against Chasetown at the Lyme Valley Stadium with Neville Thompson netting a hat-trick with goals in the 4th, 68th and 75th minutes – Leon Ashman adding the other a minute from time - while the derby nearby between Kidsgrove Athletic and Leek Town ended in a 3-3 thriller in which the visitors came back from two-down.

Andy Kinsey and Dan Skelton gave Grove a two-goal cushion by the half-hour mark. Tim Sanders on 57 minutes and a James Curley own goal on 68 minutes pulled Leek back on terms, only for Liam Shotton to restore the home side's lead six minutes later. Matty Haddrell equalised with five minutes to go.

It was all-square too at Christchurch Meadow between Belper Town and Brigg Town, whose Ryan Paczkowski put them in front after 64 minutes only for the Nailers to level through recent signing Daryll Thomas with five minutes remaining.

Rainworth Miners Welfare came out 4-2 home winners against Mickleover Sports, with Ryan Goward bagging a brace and Jared Holmes and Karl Slack the others - Bradley Munn and Kieran O'Connell replying - while Loughborough Dynamo also hit four at home against Sheffield FC, who have now dropped to tenth.

Fourth-bottom Dynamo went in front through Shoquilee McKenzie after 16 minutes and Sam Denton levelled on the half-hour mark. Rob Norris restored the hosts lead six minutes later and then Dominic Brennan and Jake Betts scored in the second period to give Dynamo three valuable points.
