Saturday's First Division South action review

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South

Easter Saturday could be the day that saw the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South title race take a massive turn in King's Lynn Town's favour, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of a crowd of 609, Lynn hammered second-bottom Mickleover Sports 7-0. Goals from Dan Jacob and Sam Mulready gave the home side a 2-0 interval lead before second half strikes from Mulready again, Russell Dunkley, Steve Spriggs and a brace from Danny Beaumont completed the rout.

The Linnets are now unbeaten in fifteen league games and that sort of pressure looks to be taking its toll on long-time leaders Coalville Town. They went down to a 3-0 defeat at Marston Road against Northwich Victoria and now only head Lynn by one point, but still possess a game in hand.

It had to happen on Easter Saturday didn't it as Rochdale-bound Joe Bunney opened the scoring for the Vics after 17 minutes and then Alex Taylor added a second second seven minutes before the break before Luke Holden grabbed a third in time added on.

Belper Town, Stamford AFC and Sutton Coldfield Town complete the top five, but only the Nailers secured maximum points on Saturday, beating Sutton Coldfield 1-0 at Christchurch Meadow, courtesy of a last-gasp Jon Froggatt effort.

Stamford were held to a goalless draw at the Lyme Valley Stadium by Newcastle Town while Halesowen Town maintained their play-offs hopes after a 2-1 win against Brigg Town, whose Paul Grimes gave them a 36th minute lead. Joe Hull equalised six minutes after half-time and then Jean Gueyes won it for the Yeltz five minutes from time.

Chasetown also maintained their outside top five hopes with a 4-1 win at The Moat against Gresley FC. Gresley's recent run of good form was halted, although the scoreline was a little harsh on them with the visitors scoring twice and deep into time added on too. Michael Nottingham got Gresley back into the game on 84 minutes after Paul Sullivan had scored in both halves but the late goals from substitute Gary Hay gave the final score a rather flattering look.

An even later goal four minutes into stoppage time from Grant Brindley saw Carlton Town come from behind to beat Kidsgrove Athletic 2-1 at the Seddon Stadium. James Curley had given Kidsgrove an 11th minute lead and Lee McAnulty levelled on 33 minutes. However, Brindley won it at the death for the Nottinghamshire side.

No Easter joy for bottom-markers Hucknall Town as they were hammered 7-2 on the 3G at Coles Lane by third-bottom Romulus, whose Marcus Brown netted a hat-trick, Luke Keen a brace and Tyron Amory and Ashley Jackson singles – all after Liam Garner had given the visitors a 17th minute lead. Warren Hatfield's second for Hucknall came two minutes from the end.

Lincoln United pulled further away from danger with a 2-1 Ashby Avenue win over Market Drayton Town thanks to goals from Aaron Rice on the half-hour mark and Ben Garrick right on half-time before Rob Stevenson replied on 57 minutes.

Sheffield FC won 2-1 at Rainworth Miners Welfare, whose Kieran Wells gave them a 25th minute lead. Steve Woolley levelled from the penalty spot eight minutes after the break and Jamie Hadfield won it for Club ten minutes later.

Leek Town enjoyed a great start to the Easter weekend, winning 3-0 at Loughborough Dynamo after Peter Wright bagged a brace and Andy Kinsey the other.
