EVO-STIK NPL First Division South

Like in its sister northern division, neither of the top two in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South were able to win on Saturday, wtites Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Leaders Sutton Coldfield Town remain four points clear going into the hectic Christmas and New Year period after a 1-1 draw at The Scholars against old rivals Chasetown, whose Nathan Waite gave them a 29th minute lead that Justin Richards cancelled out eight minutes into the second half.

Second-placed Newcastle Town had to come back from being two-down at Sutton Coldfield`s tenants Romulus.

Courtney Baker-Richardson after 10 minutes and Cameron Lee 11 minutes later had the Roms in command before Jordan Cole rescued Castle with goals on the hour-mark and then a minute from the end from the penalty spot.

Third-placed Mickleover Sports moved level on points with Newcastle after a 5-0 drubbing of bottom-markers Brigg Town at The Hawthorns.

Liam Walshe after five minutes, Anthony Griffiths Jnr on 28 minutes and then Nic De Girolamo on 63 minutes, Walshe again in the 75th and Jacob Hazel five minutes from time, gave Sports their nap hand.

Spalding United remain fourth after a 2-1 Sir Halley Stewart Fields victory over Loughborough Dynamo, taking a 46th minute lead and then winning it through Mitch Griffiths 12 minutes from the end after Matt Langham had equalised two minutes after the opener.

Stafford Rangers complete the top five after a 4-1 Marston Road win over third-bottom Market Drayton Town in which Nathan Smith and Alex Curtis scored inside the opening seven minutes.

Simon Everall added a third in the 16th minute and, after Alex Hedley had reduced the arrears in the 29th minute, Dan Cope made it 4-1 with still only 33 minutes gone on the clock. But that was the end of the scoring.

Norton United beat second-bottom neighbours Kidsgrove Athletic 2-0 with goals from Chris Baker on the hour-mark and Michael Lennon six minutes from time.

Gresley FC, Leek Town and Lincoln United, along with Romulus, are all within touching distance of the play-off places now.

Gresley and Lincoln both won, but Leek`s game was called off at Harrison Park due to a waterlogged pitch.

Gresley emerged as 3-1 winners at Tividale, with an Alex Steadman spot-kick and Jake Carlisle giving them a 2-0 interval lead. Nigel Penney reduced that on 58 minutes, only for Steadman to net his second 16 minutes from time.

Lincoln were 2-1 Ashby Avenue victors over Sheffield FC, thanks to Josh Nicol after 19 minutes and Andy Toyne on 36 minutes – Club`s reply coming in injury-time from Joel Purkiss.

Elsewhere, Stocksbridge Park Steels had a good 2-1 win at struggling Rainworth Miners Welfare, thanks to a Lee Garside brace either side of Romaine Graham`s equaliser.

Coalville Town beat inconsistent Goole AFC by the same scoreline at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds with Jack Woolley and Jared Holmes outgunning Jordan Thewlis.
