With Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South leaders Leek Town busy causing another FA Trophy upset on Saturday, the chasing pack had the opportunity to reduce the gap at the top of the table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Halesowen Town moved above Coalville Town, who were also in Trophy action, and into second spot after they did with a 2-1 win against Mickleover Sports at The Grove.

Veteran Iyseden Christie gave the Yeltz a 35th minute lead from the penalty spot and just before half-time, Joe Hull added the home side's second. But the crowd of 316 had to be patient when Sports reduced the arrears 20 minutes from time, Karl Demidh converting from the spot.

Sutton Coldfield Town are fourth after coming back from a 12th minute Richard Stirrup goal down at Sheffield FC to win 4-2.

Gary Hay equalised after 34 minutes, only for Stirrup to add Club's second eight minutes after the break. The Royals were back on terms two minutes later through Lee Parsons, and then 10 minutes after that Joel Kettle gave them the lead for the first time, with on-loan Charlie Anagho-Ntamark making it 4-2 in injury-time.

Belper Town are fourth after suffering a defensive nightmare at lower mid-table Lincoln United.

The Nailers found themselves 3-0 down at the break after an Alex Simmons brace and one from Stuart Reddington. Mark Ward reduced the arrears midway through the second half, but Bruno Holden added United's fourth in the final minute.

Strugglers Kidsgrove Athletic came from behind to shock their Staffordshire neighbours Chasetown to win 2-1.

Chasetown had dominated the first half and only several good saves from Kidsgrove's Daniel Read kept the scoreline goalless. The Scholars eventually broke through just before half-time through Paul Sullivan. But the hosts struck back with virtually the last touch of the half, Thomas Wakefield netting into an empty net after Chasetown had failed to deal with a corner.

Athletic started the second half more brightly and, on the balance of the second half play, grabbed a deserved winner – half-time substitute Nathan Chinn-Shaw driving the ball beyond Scholars' keeper Ryan Price to clinch a vital three points for the Grove.

Reuben Wiggins-Thomas scored twice and created another for Bradley Munn as a spirited Bedworth United side ended their losing league run and moved off the bottom with a 3-3 draw at home to Brigg Town.

In a thrilling end-to-end game at the Oval, United went behind after four minutes when Liam Dickins beat Bedworth keeper Celso Alcazar Liobel to the ball to head in from a cross. Undeterred, the hosts fought back and were rewarded soon afterwards when Munn swapped passes with Wiggins-Thomas as he burst into the box and swept home a low shot.

Wiggins-Thomas timed his run perfectly to score three minutes later before Brigg levelled on the half hour mark, visiting skipper Michael Jacklin forcing the ball home. Wiggins-Thomas thought he's won it with eight minutes to go before Jordan Thewliss grabbed the equaliser five minutes from time.

Market Drayton Town suffered a 4-2 home defeat to Scarborough Athletic, whose Gary Bradshaw and Tom Davie both bagged braces. Martyn Davies and Yannick Makota replied in the final eight minutes but by then they were already 4-0 down.

And it was a similar scoreline at Coles Lane between Romulus and Rainworth Miners Welfare – but this time in the home side's favour. Craig Marshall and Liam Francis gave the Roms a 2-0 interval lead that Jordan Ball and then Ashley Longstaff pulled back by the 78th minute. Danico Johnson and Marshall again, pounced in the final five minutes to win it for the hosts.

Saturday's final game saw Goole AFC and Loughborough Dynamo share a 1-1 draw at the VPG, with Ryan Williams' effort right on half-time being cancelled out by Kris Nurse on 67 minutes.
