Saturday's First Division South review

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South fared little better than its northern sister during Saturday's storms, getting just five of its scheduled eleven matches on, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Only Coalville Town of the leading pack managed to play as their game at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds against Goole AFC was given the go-ahead. And the Ravens managed a 3-0 win to move to within two points of second-placed Leek Town, who lost, and seven of leaders Halesowen Town, who have played two more matches.

Jordan Nadat gave the visitors a great start with the opening goal after just six minutes. Just after half-time Glynn Cotton added a second for Coalville and victory was confirmed 11 minutes from time with a third from Callum Woodward.

In appalling weather conditions Gresley FC produced a solid performance to shock title contenders Leek Town at the Moat.

A Royce Turville double after 24 and 49 minutes and goals from Eric Graves on 38 and Mickey Lyons on 42 minutes won the game for the Moatmen, with Jordan Johnson getting a consolation for the visitors just past the hour-mark.

Romulus and Scarborough Athletic both did their play-off hopes a power of good with home victories.

The Roms comfortably saw off struggling Brigg Town 3-0 on the 3G at Coles Lane. Theo Robinson gave the hosts an early fifth minute lead that Tyrone Amory added to 10 minutes after the break. James Reid made it 3-0 with a last minute effort.

Scarborough edged out fellow play-off contenders Newcastle Town 2-1 at Queensgate in front of a crowd of just under 400.

Jimmy Beadle gave Boro a 14th minute lead that Ryan Williams doubled 14 minutes later. And although James Askey pulled one back for Castle right on half-time, they were unable to find a leveller.

Chasetown eased to a 4-1 win at The Scholars against Lincoln United in the only other game to beat the conditions.

Sean Cann actually gave the visitors an 11th minute lead. But Nick Wellecomme cancelled that out four minutes later and then Luke Bottomer gave the home side the lead right on half-time. Richard Teasdale on 55 minutes and Wellecomme again 14 minutes from time, sealed a comfortable victory.
