Saturday's First North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town's long run without defeat in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North came to an end as they were soundly beaten 4-1 by fifth-placed Darlington 1883 at the HG Driver Recruitment Stadium on Saturday, writes Pitcheo's Steve Whitney.

In front of a crowd of 443, Darlington sent out a message that they too are likely to have a considerable say in the destination of the title, scoring twice either side of half-time in what was a comfortable victory.

Despite going into the game on the back of a seventeen-game unbeaten run in the league, Warrington offered very little going forward, as they were defeated for the second time this season by the north east club, who won the reverse fixture 2-0 on the opening day of the campaign.

Two goals apiece from David Dowson on 20 and 25 minutes and Amar Purewal on 61 and 83 minutes secured the points, with Ciaran Kilheeney's consolation for the Wire coming in injury-time.

Bamber Bridge cut the arrears at the top to five points after a comfortable 4-0 win at Irongate against bottom-markers Ossett Albion.

Matt Lawlor gave Brig a 27th minute lead, but it wasn't until two minutes after the break that they breached the Albion defence again through Chris Marlow. Lennie Reid added a third on 68 minutes and Ali Waddecar the fourth 14 minutes from time.

Farsley FC are third after they also hit four at Throstle Nest against Clitheroe, who had led through a George Conway goal on 23 minutes.

Aiden Savory equalised on 31 minutes and then, as at Irongate, it was the second half when the hosts let loose with goals from Gibraltar cap Adam Priestley on 65 minutes, Savory again seven minutes later and Danny Hull nine minutes from the end.

Curzon Ashton dropped to fourth after being held to a 2-2 draw at the Tameside Stadium by Ramsbottom United, who are eighth.

Rammy took an early sixth minute lead through Dominic Smalley and then Lee Gaskell doubled that on 37 minutes. Chris Rowney began the comeback a couple of minutes into the second half, but the equaliser didn`t arrive until four minutes from time from Niall Cummins.

A dramatic last-gasp goal by Aaron Taylor snatched all three points for Lancaster City in a feisty encounter on the Wirral against Cammell Laird.

Jordan Connerton after just two minutes and Simon Wills on 25 minutes got City's goals in the first half. Craig Cairns had equalised in the 17th minute and then Paul Lundon levelled again for Laird on 71 minutes before the returning Taylor got a dramatic injury-time winner.

However, even more dramatic fare was on offer at Parkside where Kendal Town edged out Mossley AFC by the odd goal in eleven!

Kendal made really hard work of this eventful game after leading 4-1 early in the second half with a hat-trick from Danny Mitchley, who also hit the bar from the penalty spot, and one from Sefton Gonzales – Richard Bennett replying However, Mossley refused to give in and fought back to 4-4 by the 82nd minute with goals from Charlie Anderson with two and Corey Bennett.

The equaliser woke the Mintcakes up and with the game heading into injury-time they were awarded a penalty which Rob Wilson stepped up to take and score to the relief of the crowd. Sub Zach Clark scored a minute later to make the score 6-4 but there was still time for another Mossley goal from Andy Keogh!

Elsewhere, Wakefield and Radcliffe Borough swapped places in the bottom three after Boro won 4-1 at Belle Vue.

Danny Lafferty and Jake Parker gave Boro a 2-0 lead by half-time and Brad Robinson immediately added a third after the break. David Bordman pulled one back for the Bears 20 minutes from time, but Matt Landregan restored Boro's three-goal cushion a couple of minutes from the end.

New signing Porya Ahmadi broke the deadlock two minutes after half-time at Moor Lane to give Salford City the lead. And eight minutes from time Josh Messer made sure for the hosts against Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Ossett Town moved above Prescot Cables into seventeenth place after a 2-1 win at Ingfield.

Rob Doran gave Cables a 33rd minute lead, but a brace of penalties from Steve Jeff in the 40th and 60th minutes sealed Town's comeback.

Northwich Victoria looked like they'd earned a draw at Padiham after pulling back Kieron Pickup and Ben Allen efforts for the hosts through Brian Summerskill and Jamie Phoenix midway through the second half. Instead, Pickup popped up with his second of the game to win it for the Storks with three minutes remaining.

It was the same scoreline at Victoria Park where Burscough finally edged out New Mills.

The Linnets led through John Connolly's 27th minute goal and Jordan Williams in the 68th minute. But the Millers reduced the arrears through Danny Grimshaw a minute later, only for Paul Williams to net an 88th minute spot-kick for the hosts and, despite James Hampson`s late second, the Linnets held on for the points.
