Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Farsley Celtic maintained their fine start to the new EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North season as they made it three wins from three with a scrappy 1-0 victory over Kendal Town at Throstle Nest, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

What proved to be the winning goal came just after the hour-mark as Kendal 'keeper Will Kitchen flapped at Jordan Deacey's corner before Richard Marshall flicked the ball into the back of the net.

Droylsden and Prescot Cables are the only other teams yet to taste defeat.

The Bloods beat newly-promoted Colne 2-1 at the Butcher`s Arms, despite falling behind to a goal from Ben Wharton just before the break. Steve Lewis after 66 minutes and Chris McDonagh 16 minutes from time turned the game in the home side`s favour.

Cables were held to their second draw, 1-1 at home by Radcliffe Borough at Valerie Park.

This was Boro`s first point of the campaign to date, earned when Jack Hindle cancelled out Joe Nicholson`s early fourth minute opener just past the hour-mark.

Hyde United, newly-promoted Tadcaster Albion, Ossett Town and Brighouse Town all recorded second wins from three games.

The Tigers ensured visiting Goole AFC left Ewen Fields still looking for their first points of the season following a comfortable 4-0 win.

It was goalless at the break but once Chris Amadi gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, there looked to be only one winner.

Ayrton Bevins made it 2-0 just six minutes later and Phil Dean added the third on 66 minutes, with Bevins doubling his own tally six minutes after that

Tadcaster inflicted a first defeat on Mossley AFC at Seel Park., Tom Corner scoring the only goal of the game three minutes before half-time.

Ossett also sent Trafford to their first loss of 2016-17 season, winning 3-2 at Shawe View.

The home side led at the break, courtesy of a goal from Kingsley Williams right on the whistle. Danny Frost equalised in the 67th minute and then Tyrone Gay put the visitors in front in the 79th minute.

Frost`s penalty four minutes later made it 3-1, although Aaron Burns made it a nervy finale with a second for Trafford a minute later.

Clitheroe were another side beaten for the first time this season, 2-1 at Brighouse.

But the Yorkshire side left it late as they trailed to Dimitri Tuanzebe`s 26th minute opener right until six minutes from time when Luke Parkin levelled. And three minutes later, Jamie Pollard won it for the hosts.

Lancaster City, Scarborough Athletic and Bamber Bridge all recorded their first wins of the new campaign.

The Dolly Blues recorded an excellent 3-0 victory against a Glossop North End side losing for the first time in a feisty encounter at the Giant Axe.

Strike partner Jordan Connerton set Louis Mayers through on goal in the 14th minute, the latter coolly finding the bottom corner to open the scoring. Connerton converted Jacob Gregory's low cross from close range to double City's lead after 35 minutes.

After Jamie Rainford was sent-off for Glossop for a second bookable offence Connerton wrapped up the points in the 77th minute after Oliver Crolla played the striker in on goal to round the keeper.

Scarborough won 1-0 at home to Colwyn Bay, for whom this was a second reverse, Paul Beesley grabbing the only goal of the game in the 10th minute.

Brig won comprehensively 4-1 at Dimple Wells against Ossett Albion.

After a spell of pressure by the visitors, Albion were caught out and they conceded a penalty in the 27th minute which was converted by Sam Livesey. Four minutes later a cross from the right allowed Alistair Waddecar a header to double the visitors' lead.

In the 36th minute Rob Bordman took a free-kick from the right and Danny South rose above the defenders at the far post to get a goal back for Albion. After a scrappy start to the second half, Waddecar flashed a diving header into the net for his second and Brigs third in the 65th minute.

Macauley Wilson stepped up to score from the spot three minutes later to give Brig a resounding win and revenge for last week's defeat in The Emirates FA Cup.
