Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Prescot Cables and Farsley Celtic both lost their unbeaten records in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Cables came unstuck at Scarborough Athletic, who took an early fourth minute through Benny Igiehon before going on to hit three more in the second half from Igiehon again, Carl Stewart and Dave Brown, with Joe Nicholson netting an 88th minute consolation.

Farsley suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Trafford. Shawe View hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Farsley in recent years and Saturday’s match was no different as they were shaded out by Mark Derbyshire’s goal a minute before the break.

Bamber Bridge top the fledgling table after Adam Dodd`s 51st minute effort proved enough for victory at the Butcher`s Arms against Droylsden.

Brighouse Town are second after a Ruben Jerome hat-trick on his debut, and Tom Haigh helped them record an impressive 4-0 away win at Seel Park against Mossley AFC.

Tadcaster Albion complete the top five and they had a Tom Corner goal after just eight minutes to thank for their home win over Clitheroe.

At the opposite end of the table, Goole AFC and Burcough are still yet to find a win in 2016-17.

Goole at least doubled their points` tally under new management after a 2-2 draw at Llanelian Road against Colwyn Bay, who fell behind to an eighth minute Derry Robson goal.

But Gary Burnett and Chris Gahgan scored midway through the first half to put Bay in front, only for Curtly Martin-Wyatt to earn the Vikings a point on the stroke of half-time.

Burscough were beaten 2-1 at home by Radcliffe Borough, whose Ismail Suleiman and Elliot Rokka scored in either half, rendering Dean Shacklock`s reply as just a consolation.

Elsewhere, Ossett Albion lost 1-0 at home to Colne in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The only goal came 20 minutes from time when a cross to the far post found Adam Morning in space and his header looped over Brett Souter in the Albion goal.

Lancaster City doubled their win tally for the season to date with a 2-1 success at Ewen Fields against Hyde United.

And they had to come back from being a 7th minute Ayrton Bevins goal down to win, thanks to goals in the final 15 minutes from Jacob Gregory and an Oliver Crolla penalty.

Charlie Bailey`s goal on the half-hour earned Kendal Town victory at Parkside against Ossett Town.

The points were shared at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium between Ramsbottom United and Glossop North End, whose Mike Norton gave then a 37th minute lead that was wiped out by a Louis Mayers brace either side of half-time. Karl Jones equalised just after the hour-mark.
