Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Brighouse Town top the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North table after Saturday`s win at Droylsden, coupled with overnight leaders Bamber Bridge being held to a draw, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Brighouse got off to a flyer at the Butcher`s Arms when Luke Parkin put them in front in the second minute. A Sam Hewitt own goal pulled the Bloods back on level terms 19 minutes later, but Parkin`s second of the game just past the hour-mark sealed it for Town.

Brig were held just up the road at Ewen Fields by lowly Hyde United, who fell behind to an early fourth minute Sam Livesey effort.

Michael Potts doubled Brig`s lead eight minutes later but the Tigers fought back, reducing the deficit through Matt Dempsey five minutes after that and then grabbing an 89th minute equaliser from Andy Pearson.

Farsley Celtic moved up to third place after hanmering a still win-less Burscough 5-0 at Victoria Park.

A first minute Ryan Schofield own goal set the tone, and Richard Marshall took Farsley into the break two-up with a second goal right on the whiste. James Walshaw bagged a brace on 76 and 82 minutes and loanee Jacob Hazel made it a nap hand a minute from time.

The other win-less team, Goole AFC, conceded one more than Burscough at Trafford, whose Aaron Burns helped himself to all six!

Burns set a new club record by scoring in the 12th, 32nd, 65th from the penalty spot, 71st, 73rd and 83rd minutes.

Scarborough Athletic moved into fourth spot after Adam Bolder`s 87th minute spot-kick sealed a 1-0 verdict at Queensgate against Colne.

Kendal Town dropped down to fifth after being held to a 2-2 Parkside draw by Glossop North End, whose Ben Richardson put them in front after 12 minutes.

Stuart McDonald equalised after 28 minutes, only for Max Leonard to restore the Hillians` lead three minutes later. Oliver Wood pulled Kendal back on terms just shy of the hour-mark.

Colwyn Bay came back from 2-0 down to beat Clitheroe 3-2 at Llanellian Road.

Bradley Carroll after 47 minutes and Alex Newby five minutes later gave the Blues their advantage. Scott Bakkor pulled the first back for Bay four minutes later and then Chris Gahgan equalised on 69 minutes, with Gary Burnett winning it 10 minutes after that.

There were mixed fortunes for the Ossett sides with third-bottom Albion beaten 1-0 at Dimple Wells by a Jordan Connerton effort 20 minutes from time for Lancaster City.

Town won 2-0 at Seel Park against Mossley AFC with Devonte Morton after 39 minutes and Anthony Mackie 20 minutes from time the men on the mark.

Josh Greening bagged a brace in the fourth and 28th minutes for Tadcaster Albion at home to Radcliffe Borough, whose Frank Van Gills `won` the second half in the 66th minute.

Ramsbottom United and Prescot Cables shared a 1-1 draw at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium in which Nia Bayunu`s 15th minute own goal for Cables was cancelled out by Dean Stott on 39 minutes.
