Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Brighouse Town missed the opportunity to move three points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Saturday after being held to a draw by struggling neighbours Ossett Albion, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney

Form often goes out of the window in these Yorkshire derby games and when James Eyles gave third-bottom Albion a 37th minute lead they held until the break, this one looked like being a difficult afternoon for the leaders.

But just two minutes after the interval, a fired-up Brighouse equalised through Ruben Jerome. However, despite dominating the half, the home side were unable to find a winner.

That allowed much-improved Scarborough Athletic to move into second place, just a point behind Brighouse, after winning 1-0 at Queensgate against sixth-placed Clitheroe.

A crowd of 371 saw Boro make it five games unbeaten, courtesy of a 47th minute Matt Turnbull effort.

Tadcaster Albion were hoping to move into the top five when they entertained a Burscough side who had yet to record a win in 2016-17.

However, a frustrating afternoon for Taddy saw the Linnets hold them to a goalless draw, and if the Yorkshire side can`t find a regular goalscorer, their chances of making the play-offs at the end of the season look slim.

Ossett Town are now eleventh after sharing a 1-1 Ingfield draw with Hyde United.

Ashley Jackson broke the deadlock to give the home side a 53rd minute lead – one they held until three minutes from the end of normal time when James Burke popped up with the Tigers equaliser.

Colne's game at Radcliffe Borough was abandoned due to a serious injury to Radcliffe goalkeeper Matty Johnson after 20 minutes play. After a lengthy delay waiting for an ambulance, the decision was taken at 4pm to abandon the game.
