Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Lancaster City stretched their lead at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Saturday with a 1-0 win at Seel Park over a Mossley AFC outfit who are now only a place above the drop zone, writes by Steve Whitney.

Ryan Winder`s 55th minute effort proved to be enough for the Dolly Blues on a tricky afternoon on the edge of the Pennines.

They increased their advantage at the summit due to Ossett Town, who were second overnight, having their game at home to Colwyn Bay called off in the freezing weather.

That allowed Farsley Celtic to move above their Yorkshire rivals into second place and they earned their second consecutive 4-1 win in a week by coming from behind to defeat promotion rivals Glossop North End.

Glossop led at the break courtesy of Adam Jones’ ninth minute effort, before goals from Adam Clayton on 54 minutes, Jordan Deacey on 66 minutes sandwiched by a James Walshaw brace on 56 and 86 minutes, saw Farsley earn a terrific victory.

Fourth-placed Trafford could have gone level on points with Farsley had they won at Shaw View against Hyde United but they had to be content with a point from a 1-1 draw.

Ashley Woods gave the home side the lead right on the stroke of half-time with the Tigers pulling back level 10 minutes later through Jamal Branker.

Clitheroe moved into the top five after a 1-0 success at lowly Radcliffe Borough, courtesy of George West`s 21st minute goal.

Colne, however, missed the opportunity to gain a top five spot when they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Prescot Cables, who moved above Mossley into nineteenth spot as a consequence.

Recent recruit Phil Dean gave the visitors a 16th minute lead that Dominic Marie cancelled out 11 minutes into the second period. Oliver Wood restored Colne`s lead seven minutes later, only for Lloyd Dean to level again just two minutes after that. Chris Almond then won it for Cables 16 minutes from time.

The bottom two, Burscough and Goole AFC, met at the Victoria Ground and the win for the Linnets saw them close the gap to just one point, although they are still eight points adrift of the safety-mark.

Goals at either end of the game from Mamoke Akaunu after three minutes and Adam Gilchrist in the 83rd minute earned Burscough the spoils.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Josh Greening bagged a brace as Tadcaster Albion won 2-1 at home against Bamber Bridge, whose Michael Potts had given them an eighth minute lead.

Ramsbottom United won 2-0 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against Brighouse Town with goals from Darryhl Mason three minutes after half-time and then Ryan Salmon from the penalty spot two minutes from time.

Ossett Albion earned a good 2-1 win at Parkside against Kendal Town, coming back from being a 41st minute Matt Dudley goal down to win, thanks to James Eyles after 64 minutes and Rob Bordman with three minutes remaining.
