Saturday's First South review

By David Watters

Just four games in the EVO-STIK League South on Saturday and it produced two wins and two draws, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Stocksbridge Park Steels were the day`s biggest winners – 3-0 at Christchurch Meadow against Belper Town.

It was goalless at the break but just two minutes in, Joe Lumsden broke the deadlock to give Steels the lead. Eight minutes later and Scott Ruthven doubled the visitors` lead before they made sure of the points with a second for Lumsden 12 minutes from time.

Carlton Town were the other winners, beating another side who exited the Emirates FA Cup by a lower league side, Bedworth United.

The Greenbacks led at the break, courtesy of a 24th minute Elliot Parrott effort. But just shy of the hour-mark, Danny Gordon equalised and the Nottingham side won it through Jordan Wilson after 64 minutes.

Corby Town have only won once since relegation, and they almost made it a fourth defeat in five at Steel Park against Sheffield FC.

Club led through an Andy Gascoigne penalty awarded for handball against Jamie Anton eight minutes after half-time. That looked like being good enough for all three points, until teenager Jordan O`Brien popped up with a stoppage time leveller.

Nieghbours Stamford AFC and Spalding United have also started slowly and the Lincolnshire derby also ended one apiece at the Zeeco Stadium.

The visiting Tulips took a 23rd minute lead through Devante Reittie with the Daniels back on level terms within eight minutes through Jake Duffy. Neither side though were able to find a winner.
