Saturday's North Division action review

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK League North fixture list on the final Saturday of 2017 was decimated by the weather, five of its ten games falling victim of waterlogged pitches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The top six were the major sufferers, although Scarborough Athletic managed to get their game at the Flamingo Land Stadium on against Clitheroe and were rewarded with a comfortable 4-1 win.

A terrific crowd of 1,001 saw Boro gifted an early seventh minute opener when a bad back pass was intercepted by Max Wright. But Brad Carroll pulled the Blues back on level terms just five minutes later.

Five minutes after that though, James Walshaw restored Boro`s lead and they never looked back after that, Michael Coulson adding a third on 67 minutes and four minutes later, Dave Merris making it 4-1 and game over.

Droylsden moved into sixth spot after a 2-1 Butcher`s Arms win over Ossett Town, who have dropped to tenth after just one win in eight.

Liam Caddick gave the Bloods a 22nd minute lead. Jason Yates pulled Town level just before the break, and a point apiece looked on the cards, until the hosts were awarded a penalty five minutes from time, Danny Ventre converting.

Trafford are a place and a point behind Droylsden after a 1-0 home win over Mossley AFC, courtesy of a 71st minute Aaron Burns penalty.

Glossop North End are eighth after a resounding 5-0 home win over Skelmersdale United.

Zeph Thomas gave the Hillmen an early fourth minute lead that Ben Deegan doubled right on half-time. Ryan White added a third 11 minutes after the break and a second for Deegan on 64 minutes made it 4-0, with Chris Baguley bagging the fifth 17 minutes from time.

Second-bottom Ossett Albion pulled six points clear of bottom-markers Goole AFC after a 3-1 Dimple Wells win over Atherton Collieries.

Tommy Wood gave Albion a 38th minute lead that Gareth Peet cancelled out after 69 minutes. Parity lasted barely five minutes though as Scott Metcalfe restored the home side's lead with Wood`s second of the game in the 82nd minute confirming victory.
