There were a handful of matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division on Saturday with Rushall Olympic taking a single point lead in the table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
But Rushall had to be content with a point at Dales Lane against Stafford Rangers after the 1-1 draw.
The Pics had a great start with a goal inside six minutes from Gavin Caines. However, Rangers equalised through Jimmy Turner in the 22nd minute and in the end the sides shared the spoils.
Ashton United moved level on points with second-placed Marine after a good 2-0 success at Wincham Park against mid-table Witton Albion.
After a goalless first half, Chris Baguley broke the deadlock by giving Ashton the lead five minutes after the restart. And Danny Johnson`s side made sure of victory with a second from Tom Baker 16 minutes from time.
Chorley are also on eighteen points after a Chris Denham effort on 67 minutes earned the Magpies a narrow win at struggling Eastwood Town, who fielded several new faces in an improved display.
North Ferriby United are only a point behind after beating Matlock Town 2-1 at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
Prolific marksman Gary Bradshaw gave the Villagers a 32nd minute lead that Ryan Kendall added to from the penalty spot on 71 minutes. Joe Leesley reduced the arrears three minutes later, but the Gladiators were unable to find a leveller.
Stocksbridge Park Steels tasted victory for the first time this season when winning 2-1 at The Meres against Grantham Town.
Brett Bowden-Lovell gave Steels a 21st minute lead that Danny South doubled right on half-time. All the Gingerbreads could muster in reply was a 67th minute Sam Puricoe effort.
There was a shock for seventh-placed Nantwich Town, who were hammered 5-0 at the Weaver Stadium by mid-table Worksop Town.
The game turned when the Tigers scored twice in a minute, starting in the 34th through Kern Miller and then Ashley Burbeary from the penalty spot. Craig King added a third right on half-time and then Leon Mettam on 73 minutes and big Tom Denton six minutes later made it nap for the Tigers.
