While several of the top sides in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division were involved in FA Cup action, Skelmersdale United took advantage to return to the top of the table on Saturday after edging out Frickley Athletic by the odd goal in five at Stormy Corner, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Connor McCarthy gave Skem a 16th minute lead that Curtis Thompson eventually doubled eight minutes into the second half. Bradley Riley reduced the arrears in the 63rd minute with a cracker and then the recently returned Luke Hinsley equalised 10 minutes later. But Rob Brodie broke Frickley hearts with a last-gasp winner.

Rushall Olympic moved up to fourth place after a comfortable 3-0 win against Workington AFC at Dales Lane.

Nathan Rooney gave the Pics the boost of an opening goal right on half-time. Chris Reece doubled that four minutes after the restart, and then Aaron Farrell added a third on the hour-mark.

Ramsbottom United are fifth after beating bottom-markers Belper Town 4-2 at the Riverside.

Phil Dean gave Rammy an early third minute lead that caretaker boss Jon Froggatt levelled three minutes later. Dean restored the hosts` advantage in the 16th minute, only for Ian Ross` penalty to restore parity six minutes later. But Osebi Abadaki right on half-time, and then Jon Robinson midway through the second half, took the game away from the Nailers.

FC United of Manchester are only a point and a place behind Ramsbottom after winning 2-1 at the Weaver Stadium against Nantwich Town.

A crowd of 898 saw Aaron Burns eventually break the deadlock to give the Dabbers the lead after 69 minutes. Six minute later Tom Greaves equalised and then Tom Brown won it for the Reds six minutes from time.

Matlock Town remain second-bottom, but as usual managerless teams are dangerous opponents as hosts Witton Albion discovered.

Witton, under their new boss Tony Sullivan, were ahead after 13 minutes through Neil Harvey. But Danny Holland levelled from the spot four minutes before half-time and then Corey Gregory after 74 minutes and James Ashmore five minutes later won it for the Gladiators.

The other Saturday game between Whitby Town and Trafford ended all-square at 1-1. Shelton Payne gave visiting Trafford a 21st minute lead that Liam Shepherd cancelled out after 68 minutes.
