Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Saturday`s fixture list in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division was once again decimated by the wet weather, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And after only three of the scheduled nine matches went ahead, just two finished after the game between Hyde United and Buxton was abandoned after 68 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.

League leaders Blyth Spartans did manage to get their game on at Croft Park and they won 4-0 against ninth-placed Barwell to go five points clear at the top of the table.

Sean Reid gave the hosts a 27th minute lead that Michael Richardson doubled three minutes after half-time. Danny Parker made it 3-0 and virtually game over five minutes later, with Reid adding the icing on the cake with the fourth after 65 minutes.

Grantham Town made it one defeat in six after securing a 2-0 success against eighth-placed Halesowen Town at The Meres.

The Gingerbreads` good run came to a halt when they were beaten 4-0 at Rushall Olympic in midweek, but they bounced back against a Yeltz outfit in decent form themselves.

Michael Hollingsworth put the home side in front on the half-hour mark. And that looked as though it was going to be enough until Stefan Bilyk popped up with a second to make sure for the Gingerbreads.
