Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Workington AFC moved to within two points of the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Saturday after winning one of only two games played, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Reds edged out fourth-bottom Marine AFC 1-0 at Borough Park, the only goal coming from Sam Smith after 26 minutes.

The value of possessing a 3G pitch was clearly shown again as Sutton Coldfield Town`s Coles Lane hosted the only other game.

Their 2-0 win over second-bottom Stamford AFC lifted them up to eleventh in the table while the Daniels are now five points adrift of the safety-mark having played more games than most around them.

Zak Lilly, on loan from National League North side AFC Telford United, proved to be the Royals` hero on the day.

The teenager opened the scoring after less than eight minutes and then added a second from the penalty spot a minute before half-time. The hosts defended that lead successfully to leave the visitors deep in trouble.
