Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Corby Town boosted their survival hopes and moved out of the relegation places on goal difference after defeating Stafford Rangers 1-0 on Saturday in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's top flight, writes Pitchero's Tom Feaheny.

A late Phillip Trainer goal proved to be the difference as caretaker-manager Steve Kinniburgh got his first victory in charge.

Sutton Coldfield Town are now fourth bottom after they lost 3-2 to Matlock Town, Marcus Dinanga on 10 minutes, Dwayne Wiley on the stroke of half-time and Marc Newsham after 69 minutes doing the damage for the visitors with Ryan Robbins afer 30 minutes and Pa Njie in stoppage time replying.

In the battle for promotion, second place Spennymoor Town need one more win to ensure a play-off place but they could only draw 1-1 with Rushall Olympic, Glen Taylor putting the hosts ahead on 68 minutes before Lewis Probert levelled two minutes later.

Nantwich are in third after beating already relegated Ilkeston 3-0, Stephen Jones four minutes before the break and Ryan Brookes from the spot on 61 minutes and Osebi Abadaki after 58 minutes grabbing the goals.

Stourbridge are fourth after they came from behind to strengthen their claim for one of the play-off places after beating Frickley Athletic 4-1. Goals from Luke Benbow, Kayelden Brown, Thomas Tonks and a nice strike by Ethan Jones cancelled out an early Tyler Williams effort.

Victory for Grantham Town courtesy of a Lee Shaw goal with just under a quarter of an hour to go saw them overtake their opponents Buxton and move to fifth.

Workington remain just outside the play-off spots in sixth after they beat Halesowen Town 1-0, Conor Tinnion grabbing the decisive goal five minutes before the break.

Whitby Town pegged back fellow promotion hopeful Warrington Town twice in a 2-2 draw, Dale Hopson and Matthew Tymon cancelling out Dan Hattersley strikes in each half.

Elsewhere, already promoted champions Blyth Spartans extended their unbeaten run to nine matches after they drew 1-1 away at Ashton United, Nathan Buddle putting them ahead after 27 minutes before Ryan Crowther equalised just after the hour mark.

Mickleover Sports defeated Barwell 4-1 with Medi Abalimba, Adam Baskerville with a brace and Connor Hall, replying to Callum Ball's opener for the visitors from the spot after nine minutes.

Marine secured their first victory since April by defeating Hednesford Town 3-0, Danny Mitchley and Luke Wall before the break and Matthew Hamilton in the final minutes finding the net.

Despite only being able to take one substitute with them for the game against Coalville Town, already relegated Skelmersdale United earned a 3-3 draw with an injury time goal from Phillip Mooney.

Bevan Burey and Steve Irwin had earlier replied after the break to an own goal from Josh Dobie five minutes in, Malachi Lavelle-Moore after 25 minutes and Nathan Watson ten minutes before the end.
