Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

A reduced fixture list in the EVO-STIK League Premier on Saturday saw newly-promoted Farsley Celtic move into second spot – a point behind fellow newcomers Shaw Lane AFC – after a 3-2 win at Coalville Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A James Walshaw penalty gave the visitors the lead at Owen Street on 25 minutes, only for Nathan Watson to equalise six minutes later. An Isaac Baldwin own goal then gave the Ravens the lead 11 minutes into the second half. But Gibraltar international Adam Priestley pulled Farsley back on terms on 63 minutes and Chris Atkinson won it for the Yorkshire side 14 minutes from time.

Warrington Town are third after they won 2-1 at Dales Lane against a Rushall Olympic side who have slumped to third-bottom.

And they had the lead through AJ Adelekan after 18 minutes, only for Sean Williams to level from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute. Shaun Beeley then won it for the Wire with 12 minutes remaining.

Halesowen Town are rooted to the bottom of the table after suffering a 5-1 home drubbing by Workington AFC.

Despite taking an early fifth minute lead with a super strike from Daniel Udoh, the Yeltz were comprehensively beaten at The Grove. Scott Allison equalised in the 35th minute and three minutes later, Jack Egan put the Reds in front. Three minutes after half-time, Egan bagged his second and less than a minute later, David Symington made it 4-1, with Jordan Holt making it a nap hand in stoppage time.

Another side hitting five were Matlock Town, who beat furth-bottom Sutton Coldfield Town at Causeway Lane.

The Gladiators only led 1-0 at the break, thanks to a 17th minute Kyle Blake goal, but two minutes after the interval, Luis Rose added a second and then a Michael Williams brace in the 77th – from the spot – and 88th minute made it 4-0, with recent signing Adam Etches adding the fifth in time added on.

In contrast, in front of 528, Stalybridge Celtic and Altrincham – the two sides who came down from the National League North at the end of last season, couldn`t find a goal between them at Bower Fold.

Promoted Witton Albion suffered a third successive defeat, this time 2-0 at Wincham Park against Mickleover Sports, two goals in a minute just before the hour-mark from the experienced Pablo Mills and Anthony Brown at the wrong end settling the match in the Derbyshire side`s favour.

A 14th minute David Carson spot-kick proved the difference between Whitby Town and Barwell at the Turnbull Ground in the Seasiders` favour, while Hednesford Town earned a good 2-1 win at Hurst Cross against Ashton United.

James Lawrie gave the Pitmen a 12th minute lead that Sam Oji eventually doubled 14 minutes from time. All Ashton could muster in reply was a stoppage time Liam Tomsett effort.

And it finished all-square at the Marine Travel Arena between Marine AFC and Grantham Town, whose Andy Wright looked to have won it for the Gingerbreadswith his 37th minute effort right until the end of the game when Adam Hughes popped up with the equaliser for the Mariners.
