Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

There were just a handful of matches in the EVO-STIK League Premier on Saturday due to the Buildbase FA Trophy but there was one surprise outcome, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

That came at Throstle Nest where Farsley Celtic were looking to move into third place in the table when they entertained a rock-bottom Sutton Coldfield Town side looking for their first three points since September. However, Celtic were stunned by the Royals – the only goal of the game coming after just two minutes when Gurjit Singh fired a half-volley home from the edge of the box.

Witton Albion moved up to eighth after recording a 2-1 win at the Turnbull Ground against fast-dropping Whitby Town.

The Seasiders couldn`t have wished for a better start when Kyle Fryatt gave them an early second minute lead. But Tom Owens equalised on the hour-mark and then Rob Hopley won it for Albion 14 minutes from time.

Matlock Town moved up to 14th after a 2-0 home win over second-bottom Halesowen Town, two goals in two minutes from Michael Williams and Jake Green just before half-time killing off the Yeltz challenge.

Mickleover Sports were looking to put pressure on the top five when they travelled to lowly Rushall Olympic. Unfortunately for their hopes, the Pics returned to winning ways in a 1-0 success thanks to Jordan Sangha`s early fifth minute goal at Dales Lane.
