Saturday's Premier Division review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

With Chorley and AFC Fylde in FA Trophy action on Saturday, Skelmersdale United had the chance to return to the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division – which they did in emphatic style, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Skem hammered beleaguered bottom-markers Droylsden 7-3 at the West Lancs College Stadium, with Shaun Tuck and Dean Astbury both bagging braces, Jonah O`Reilly, Matty Hughes and Adam Morning singles – Domaine Rouse, Pavik Fernandes Balde and Matt German replying for ten-man Bloods.

Worksop Town moved into fourth after a 3-2 success at Hurst Cross against Ashton United. Martin Pilkington gave the home side an early fifth minute lead that Tom Denton cancelled out six minutes before half-time. Leon Mettam put the Tigers 2-1 up on 62 minutes and Jack Muldoon added a third seven minutes before Matty Chadwick's 78th minute second for the home side made for a nervy finale.

Marine complete the top five, but they were held 1-1 at the Arriva Stadium by Barwell, whose Danny Quinn gave them a 10th minute lead that was cancelled out four minutes later by Andy Fowler.

Frickley Athletic's jinx against FC United of Manchester continued as they went down to a 3-0 defeat at Gigg Lane with all the goals coming in the second half.

After riding their luck a little in the first half the Blues were enjoying putting some pressure on the home goal when Steve Gardner inexplicably turned and lobbed his own stranded keeper Tom Woodhead from 30 yards to give FC United a 55th minute lead. Deflated Frickley conceded a second to Tom Davies following a corner six minutes later and Tom Greaves sealed the win in the 90th minute.

Blyth Spartans went down to a 2-1 defeat at Silverlands to a Buxton side who took a 54th minute lead through Neil Stevens. Lee Morris doubled the Bucks lead on 68 minutes, with Craig Hubbard replying five minutes from time.

King's Lynn Town moved up to seventh in the table after a comfortable 3-0 win at The Walks against Witton Albion. Ryan Fryatt gave the Linnets an eight minute lead that Rob Duffy doubled on 33 minutes. Recent signing Marc Goodfellow completed the scoring 10 minutes into the second period.

Ilkeston FC were held to a goalless draw at the New Manor Ground by second-bottom Stafford Rangers while Graeme Armstrong's 88th minute equaliser earned Whitby Town a point at home against Grantham Town, whose Ashley Burbeary had given them a 42n minute lead.

And Trafford looked set for victory at Kettering Road against Stamford AFC before being undone by a late equaliser. Leading 2-1 with goals from Shelton Payne in the third and 33rd minutes, Ryan Robbins replying from the spot for the Daniels on the half-hour mark before popping up with an injury-time leveller.
