Saturday's Premier Division review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

The wet weather returned to wreak havoc with Saturday`s fixtures in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division, with five games being postponed and two others failing to finish, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Leaders Skelmersdale United were one of those teams kicking their heels as their match at home to Trafford was postponed, but they maintained top spot as play-off chasing Blyth Spartans beat second-placed Chorley 3-1 at Croft Park.

The home side had to come back from being a 20th minute goal behind after Shaun Utterson's unfortunate own goal. But crucially, Danny Maguire equalised a minute before half-time and then seconds later Neal Hooks doubled their lead. And eight minutes from time, Danny Parker added Blyth's third to make sure of their eighth win out of nine at home.

Frickley Athletic finished with nine-men as they went down to a 2-0 home defeat to Ashton United in terrible conditions.

Chris Baguley scored twice, the first after just six minutes and while the Blues had plenty of pressure, it was Baguley who scored again after 64 minutes to extend Ashton's lead. Goalkeeper Ben Simpson was sent-off after 83 minutes for a foul outside the box and Gavin Allott was dismissed in stoppage time as both he and an Ashton player slid in for a tackle.

Three goals in the last four minutes saw King's Lynn Town complete a dramatic turnaround to see off Ilkeston FC at The Walks.

Tyrell Waite broke the deadlock to give the visiting Robins a 62nd minute lead. However, loanee Charley Sanders bagged his first goal for Lynn in the 86th minute and Ryan Fryatt gave the hosts the lead just two minutes later. And just to make sure the comeback was safe, Rob Duffy scored an injury-time penalty to seal a thrilling victory for Gary Setchell's side.

Richie Allen has enjoyed several spells with AFC Fylde and, following his latest recent comeback, he bagged a brace to help his side to a 3-0 home win over Witton Albion.

Allen scored in the very first minute and again in the 35th to give the Coasters a 2-0 interval lead. And then Sean Cooke completed victory with the hosts' third on the 57th minute.

Third-bottom Stocksbridge Park Steels went down to a 3-0 defeat at Bracken Moor to a Whitby Town side now only a point behind the play-off places.

Graeme Armstrong gave the Seasiders a 10th minute lead that Craig Farrell doubled seven minutes later. And six minutes before half-time, Farrell's third left Steels too much to do in the second period.

The games at Stamford AFC and just up the A1 at Grantham Town were both abandoned after a horrendous storm midway through the first halves of both matches.
