Saturday's Premier Division review

By David Watters

Newly-promoted Shaw Lane AFC head the EVO-STIK League Premier table on Saturday after a resounding 5-2 home win over Stafford Rangers on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Barnsley-side virtually had the game done and dusted by half-time as goals from Damian Reeves, Cameron Hough and a brace from Paul Clayton saw them 4-0 up.

Osebi Abadaki reduced the deficit 10 minutes into the second half and Dan Westwood pulled a second back eight minutes later. But Alex Byrne ensured there was to be no nervy end when he added Shaw Lane`s fifth with 19 minutes remaining.

Coalville Town`s sixth game without defeat has lifted them up to second place.

They beat a struggling Stalybridge Celtic side, who are starting to look in danger of suffering back-to-back relegations, 4-0 at Owen Street with braces for Dan Creaney after 28 and 56 minutes and Nathan Watson in the 65th and 67th minutes.

Warrington Town are third and have still only lost once this season but had to make do with a point from a 1-1 draw at The Grove against second-bottom Halesowen Town.

The Yeltz showed plenty of battling spirit as they trailed to Caleb Richards` 17th minute opener for the Wire until a minute from time when James Spray equalised.

Promoted Witton Albion lost top spot after going down to a third defeat at Wincham Park to lowly Rushall Olympic.

Andre Landell gave the Pics a 33rd minute lead that Steven Tames eventually cancelled out from the spot 20 minutes from the end. But a Stan Mugisha goal eight minutes from time sealed Olympic`s victory.

Stourbridge complete the top five and put in a below par performance but still came away with a point from a goalless draw against in-form Lancaster City at the War Memorial Ground in front of 899.

Sutton Coldfield Town earned a third win of the season at Coles Lane against Buxton.

The Royals trailed at the break to a penalty from Liam Hardy right on the whistle. But a brace from former Kidderminster Harriers striker Gurjit Singh in the 75th and then in stoppage time won it for the hosts.

A Shaun Harrad spot-kick just shy of the hour-mark sealed a win for Matlock Town at Borough Park against Workington AFC, while a goal from Jordan Hulme five minutes into the second half continued Altrincham`s recovery at Moss Lane against Grantham Town.

Farsley Celtic disappointed at Throstle Nest against Barwell, whose Ryan Seal opened the scoring with a penalty immediately after the break.

Matt Stenson doubled the Canaries lead eight minutes later and James Walshaw`s spot-kick three minutes from time was all the hosts could muster in response.

Ashton United survived a late comeback by home side Nantwich Town, who also missed a penalty, to edge it 3-2 at the Weaver Stadium.

Ashton led through goals from Matty Chadwick after 10 minutes and Mark Lees 10 minutes later. Eight minutes after half-time, sub Harry Clayton was fouled by Dominic Smalley, but Ashton `keeper Ashley Firth saved Sean Cooke’s spot-kick.

Then in the 82nd minute, Chadwick managed to convert his penalty to stretch Ashton`s lead to 3-0 before Clayton and then Joel Stair grabbed two goals back in stoppage time.

Marine AFC almost mirrored Nantwich`s efforts at the Turnbull Ground against a Whitby Town side who led through Anthony Hume after six minutes, Dave Carson on the half-hour mark and Hume again after 68 minutes.

Scott Bakkor immediately reduced the arrears and then Will Smart caused a nervy finale when he pulled a second back for the Mariners with two minutes of normal time to go.

Mickleover Sports enjoyed a 5-0 home thrashing of Hednesford Town in the day`s other game.

The Derbyshire side led 3-0 at the break, thanks to Ben Turner after seven minutes and an Evan Garnett brace on 28 and 38 minutes. Lewis Belgrave added a fourth to make it game over three minutes after the restart and Andy Dales made it a nap hand six minutes later.
