Saturday's South Division action review

By David Watters

Four games managed to survive the freeze on Saturday in the EVO-STIK League South, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The relatively 'balmy' East Midlands saw the games at Corby Town and Loughborough Dynamo go ahead, along with those at Chasetown and on the coast at Cleethorpes Town.

And there we start as Sheffield FC, who started the day second-bottom of the table, inflicted a 4-0 mauling on a Cleethorpes outfit who were fourth and with games in hand on those above them.

It was goalless at the break but Tyler Williams put Club ahead after 56 minutes and just five minutes later, Andy Gascoigne doubled their advantage. Ben Algar on 68 minutes and Rob Worrall two minutes later made it a surprisingly comfortable afternoon for the visitors.

Corby moved above Cleethorpes into fourth spot after winning 2-1 at Steel Park against Leek Town, who could have moved into the top seven had they won.

Cameron Healey gave the Steelmen a 17th minute lead that Tim Grice levelled from the penalty spot after 25 minutes. But Sam Mulready won it for the home side on the hour-mark.

Chasetown are eighth but are now only a point and a place above Stamford AFC after the Daniels beat them 2-0 at The Scholars.

The players failed to reward the groundstaff who did a marvellous job in getting the game on as goals from Ben George after only three minutes and then Liam Adams after 65 minutes won it for the visitors.

Loughborough are now 11th after beating Spalding United at the Nanpantan Sports Ground, Louis Keenan giving the home side an early sixth minute lead and then eight minutes from time, Josh Riley making the points safe for Dynamo with number two.

Saturday's Premier Division action review Saturday's EVO-STIK League Premier programme came close to being completely 'whited-out' with only the games at Whitby Town and Workington AFC getting the referee's nod.
Snow grateful despite the result! Chasetown couldn't reward their fans with a win for ensuring their EVO-STIK League clash with Stamford on Saturday went ahead but proud officials have sent the club's grateful thanks to the army of volunteers who answered an SOS call to clear snow.
