Whitby Town's midweek man-of-the-match Shane Henry is desperate to hold onto his place for Saturday's visit of Nantwich Town, writes Andrew Snaith.

The midfielder helped the Blues secure their first Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division victory of the season on Wednesday night with a stellar performance during their 2-0 success over Grantham Town.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined the Seasiders in August from Northern League Billingham Synthonia, told Whitby-Town.com: "When I first came, I knew I'd be in and out, with the quality we've got in the squad, but I've got a chance and I've put a shift in and hopefully I can keep the shirt."

Nathan Mulligan scored both goals in midweek and Henry told the club's website that he also enjoyed they formation they played before revealing that dressing room unity had played a big part in the long overdue victory.

He said: "I played a lot at Guisborough in a three, it gives you more freedom and licence. There is a good spirit, we've got a good togetherness, it was nice to have a clean sheet and a big defensive performance.

"I thought it was a scrappy affair, lots of niggly bits and pauses in the game, but we created enough chances to win. You could sense the pressure in the air, but we felt up for it and we knew, if we performed, everything would fall into place."

Whitby Town have handed out a number of free tickets to local schools to celebrate Non-League Day at the Turnbull ground on Saturday with supporters of the two clubs also battling it out beforehand in a lunchtime match of their own.

Meanwhile, striker Jordan Hugill, 20, has joined Northern League Marske United on a four-week loan. The former Glenn Hoddle Academy member recently completed a gruelling ten-month spell on the sidelines after snapping ligaments in the top of his leg.
