Seasiders stage solidarity sale for neighbours

A Whitby Town volunteer has produced a special range of merchandise to raise funds for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League rivals Frickley Athletic after they were raided by thieves and vandals last weekend.

The Big Fellas clubhouse at Westfield Lane was wrecked on Saturday night, prompting Seasiders supporter Andy Lever to organise a special sale in aid of their West Yorkshire neighbours this Saturday when they host Barwell in the Premier Division at Westfield Lane.

With the help of donations from generous Town fans and a follower of South Yorkshire side Denaby United, Lever, who usually helps produce Whitby’s own merchandise, decided to expand his range with a number of Frickley-themed items including Athletic FC mugs and mobile phone covers.

They've been delivered to their crime hit neighbours this week and speaking on Whitby Town's club podcast, he said: "I'd do exactly the same for any club in the same league as we are. It doesn't matter where you come from, it's just disgusting to see these things happening and we should all stick together."

Whitby Town's club shop manager George Osborne added: "Both myself and Andy used to live ten miles or so from Frickley and it was our midweek game if we had nothing else on. We were made very welcome on New Year’s Day and for someone to do that beggar’s belief. We thought instead of just talking, we'll do something about it."
