Shaw raid on Shirebrook

Worksop Town manager Mark Shaw continued the revamping of his Evo-Stik Northern Premier League squad on Friday with a raid on his former club Shirebrook Town.

Shaw, pictured, took over at the Premier Division club at the end of the season after leaving the Northern Counties East League outfit. On Wednesday he resigned striker Leon Mettam before completing a double deal for keeper Ben Hallam and forward Jordan Lemon ahead of the weekend.

Hallam, 22, started his career at Hull City, graduating from the youth team to the professional ranks before joining North Ferriby United and Frickley Athletic after failing to win an extension to his pro contract. He started the last campaign with Arnold Town before joining Shaw at Shirebrook.

Shaw said: "Last year Ben was definitely playing below his level. I don't think a lot of managers look at divisions below for players because they don't believe they have the ability to play at this level. I think I was lucky to keep him last year.

"His potential to become a high quality goalkeeper is definitely there. He has a very good education from Hull City and has experience at this level. He is a very good keeper, part of the building process and fits in with the idea of having young players for the future."

Striker Lemon, 20, switched to Shirebrook in October 2012 from East Midlands Counties League side Holbrook Sports. Shaw believes he can be a hit with supporters too and is ready to make the step up. "Jordan is a useful prospect," added Shaw. "He is still only a young lad but he has loads of pace and enthusiasm."
